My cats are going to walk on the moon! Sort of.

My two 20th month old tabby brothers(Harry & Lloyd) have had the run of the house since they were 8 weeks old. Recently we had an ice storm that left us w/out power for 5 days and our sole source of heat was a woodstove in the basement. Naturally, I wanted to let Dumb&Dumber downstairs too and it’s been like a feline scuba party ever since. They’ve searched every nook and cranny my cellar could ever provide and because I have tools, paint, laundry detergent, etc, I’m always wary of where they are at all, if not most times.

The other night I heard what I think is a mouse in the attic. I had mice the 1st year I lived here but a dozen snap traps later and it’s been pretty quiet around here. I insulated the attic last spring and since I took out all the traps and anything that might do them harm I’ve decided to let Harry D and Lloyd C explore the final frontier upstairs amidst the blown in insulation and floating bits of recycled junk mail.

They’re fixed male house cats so unless I start cleaning their litter box Every Freakin’ Day, chasing mice in the attic is about the best it’s going to get for them.

God Speed, guys, and you know the rules, no humping, no licking, no sniffing hineys.

I think you should go ahead and open a window or go outside for awhile and get some oxygen, okay?

Although I cannot cite research or sources to back me up, the idea of giving cats access to insulation just doesn’t sound like a good one. Even if they didn’t actually eat it, which I hear cats are given to do, it can get on their coats to be licked off at bathtime. And even if the insulation is not fibreglas (which does contain actual glass), the chemicals in insulation can’t be good for them.

And although I really don’t understand your correlation of being in the attic to cleaning the kitty box (do you *want *them to poop in the attic?), you should absolutely be cleaning their box Every Single Day.
