My computer and a warm environment

I am leaving for the weekend and my air conditioning is broken. It cannot be fixed until i get back, so I was wondering if it will cause any harm to my computer if it sits in a hot house for a few days.

Thanks

As long as the computer isn’t actually running, I think it should be OK. Just how hot do you think it’ll get in your house?

I’m not sure, but possibly up to 100 F.

As long as you leave it off, you should be ok.

Most computers can run in temperatures as high as 120º. To be on the safe side, though, when you get back and get the AC fixed, let the computer acclimate before you crank it up.

Computers are much beefier than most people give them credit for. Since it’s getting hot, not cold, I wouldn’t even bother to let it acclimate unless the house temperature was well over 120 F. Most computers that have a big enough processor that could get hot enough to damage themselves have heat warnings built into them.

I’ve seen computer labs that would reach 110 with the computers on all day (old computers, with no fans) and no problems.

Good nick.

Does the computer have to be on while you are gone? (e.g. are you running an FTP site or a web server on it?) If not, and there is a cooler part of your house you could store your computer in you might consider disconnecting the cables and putting the computer where it will not be as hot. I would do this if you’d rather be safe than sorry than worry about heat damage to your computre while you’re gone.

Incidentally, I run my computer in a room that must reach 90 degrees at times. My A/C isn’t working and I can’t really afford to get it fixed at the moment. It’s in a room with a west-facing window, so on early summer evenings it gets mighty toasty. I leave the computer running all day and it’s never given me any trouble in spite of the heat.
