It could be a virus. It sounds similar to something a friend of mine had on his pc awhile back. He had to rebuild his PC from scratch after formatting and partitioning the hard drive.
It could also be CometCursor. If you can check for that, see if it’s there and if so, remove it ASAP.
The Icons running away from the cursor is a symptom of the W32.Magistr vurus after it has been on your computer for two months. This doens’t mean you are infected, I suppose something else could cause this as well, but I’d get a virus program and run it ASAP.
In the future, if you need it, I think that Mcaffee’s website has an online virus scanner. Pretty cool as it has updated list of viruses. I think they have a trial version. Scans your computer when its online, as a matter of fact you can use it with as many computers as you want.
Yeah, well, you can’t use it with ME. It doesn’t work with ME. The new Norton Antivirus 2002 has a scanner and does many nice things. It will check and repair registry errors. It will optimize (but not defrag) your discs. It will tell you what percentage of our discs is not defragged. It can remove unnecessary clutter on your hard drive. It does 10 things once you start the quick scan, and then you have options to do other things. Before it optimizes or scans, it will temporarily close the background applications and automatically restart them when it’s done. Oh, yes. It also prevents viruses and has frequent updates. It also has a “Go Back” feature, which ME already has in System Restore. The price is $50, but I think it’s well worth the price.
Comet Cursor is a real curse, worse than BonziBuddy. I had downloaded both of them right after I got my computer. But that’s another sad story.
