My computerwon't let me delete a folder

The title says it all, I’ve been trying to uninstall a game, there is a folder that I can’t remove.Anyone can help?

Nope.
But I can ask lots of questions!

What O/S are you running?
What does the message say when you try to delete it?
Have you tried booting to safe mode and deleting it?

Lastly…I hope you aren’t trying to uninstall by deleting? You went through add/remove programs first?

What does it say when you try to delete it? I assume you are trying to do it manually. The most likely cause is that a file in the folder is still be used by the system. If you know what you are doing, you can open the folder and start deleting subfolders in it and then any individual files that you can. At some point, you should run across the file that is in use and you can use the Windows Task Manager to kill that process and then delete the file and the folder.

This is all assuming that you really know what you are doing. Use at your own risk.

There are probably “hidden” files in it., but so much depends on what system you have.

If you’re in XP, and are using a profile with limited (i.e., non-admin) privileges, then it sometimes wo’nt let you delete a folder or file that is not in your particular section of the hard drive.

To answer quetion:
Daizy: operating sys.; XP home edition, message; something about being write protected; noI didn’t try doing the delete in safe mode;and finally yes I am trying to uninstall by deleteing thiugh I did use install/uninstall first, there was a message that not all the program was uninstalled b y control panel and would need to be deleted manually.
The program is a game with 3 expansion packs there was a problem after preforming a update ,I figured that unistalling the game and reinstlling would be the best route.WRONG.everything was uninstalled but the second expansion pack, which is the second sub folder. When I try to manually delete that folder there is a message" cannot delete(program name).EXE:accsess denied
Make sure thedisk is not full or write protected
and that the file is not currently in use"
I thought about trying to go to an earlier RESTORE point.

Pull up the Task Manager and make sure the program isn’t still lurking there. If so, run MSCONFIG to see if it’s in the Startup menu. If so, uncheck it and reboot and try to delete it again.
