I was talking with some folk up in Grand Haven last Oct. Bunch of folk from Grand Rapids were there as well. They were pretty astute folk, with plenty to say about what was going well/poorly throughout the mitten. But they were pretty much at a loss for words to explain how fucked up your lovely county is. Wonder what it will take for the county to dig out of that hole.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so awful. I mean, I have to assume most of the county doesn’t deserve these idiot clowns.
I must admit I laughed when they hired gibbs in the first place, an idiot election denier/conspiracy theorist/with questionable views about women and no experience with well…anything. What could possibly go wrong? Then again he wasn’t half as bad a karamo (oooo demons and human sacrifice!) It’s just breathtaking, slack jawed, idiocy.
The board (and I guess I mean joe moss) were in high dudgeon because: gasp their children weren’t allowed to go to school because of a pandemic!!!111!! And MASKS? Where are my pearls!? These people just had to get elected to get rid of a life long, skilled professional who was doing her job appropriately… 'cause Hoax. The guy they want to replace her with is a worse lunk head than gibbs.
How dare the HD try to protect children and their families from a potentially fatal illness? Humph, a “hoax” of course. There really is an endless supply of foolery going on there.
I hope your county gets decent people in next election. Maybe you can get the nice motto back.
The rub of it is that the people who voted in these nutjobs will never admit to themselves or others that they were wrong to do so. The best you can hope for is that they’ll just slink away.
Oh and the guy, Benjamin Wetmore, who’s now running the county as Gibbs is suspended, once worked with James O’Keefe and Project Veritas on several right-wing nutball actions. Some of the schemes he teamed up with O’Keefe on include:
-
Pretending to be volunteers for the nonprofit Love Thy Prisoner Campaign, where they tried to get Boston residents to “adopt a Jihad detainee” and become “pen pals with Guantanamo Bay detainees and put them into their loving homes.”
-
Working to get Lucky Charms banned from a college dining hall because they were offensive to Irish-American students.
-
Offering incidental assistance to O’Keefe when he was phone-tapping then-Sen. Mary Landrieu’s New Orleans office.
-
Authoring a plot to sexually humiliate a CNN journalist in order to discredit her and the network.
More on Wetmore’s illustrious past with James O’Keefe can be read here. Such a wonderful representative of humanity currently running our county. It’s like these people find the most wretched, incompetent, doofuses, and give them all the best jobs. Trolls from top to bottom.
It’s a preview of 2025 under Emperor Trump.
Ooo, I hadn’t heard that yet. It’s like they are finding the slimiest, most criminal creeps, the less qualified for the job the better.
But for a lot of MAGA adherents, all those things were Pros, rather than Cons (well, some of them are cons, but you know ).
A LOT of the early MAGA was about getting rid of those hi-falutin’ elites that didn’t know nothing about normal folk, who kept playing games of bi-partisanship, and give and take, rather than just standin’ up for what’s right! (in case it isn’t clear, I’m parodying the hell of these people).
Them Washington elite folks didn’t care about -us- the people, and we need to drain that swamp and put in honest plumbers, electricians and good decent folk who will work for us!
And of course, instead they get people who were great at fanning that outrage, but knew fuck all about working in government, with a mandate to burn it all down. Which works great … until you realize what you’re having them burn down is a large part of what keeps your city, county, and country working as a coordinated whole.
I think the old saw, “be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!” should be the quintessential curse of MAGA.
They are gleeful about this crap. The republicans have long considered government the problem and not the solution. It’s gotten worse with maga.
I think I mentioned early on in this thread where they were interviewing some guy in Ottawa county about the chaos. And his smugly stated opinion was that protesting the peculiar, asinine “policies” and chaotic secrecy of the newly (at that time) elected board was all about…wait for it… communism. Yes, in a county that had always been stoutly republican, quietly conservative, and went about their duties in a professional, quiet and boring way. Wild red commies every one.
It’s the good ol’ meme of Communist is whatever I don’t like.
It is consistent with the message of anti-intellectualism.
I was going to say Project 2025, as discussed in that other thread. The OP’s county is just a trial run of what’s to come nationwide if the unthinkable happens.
Here’s where these American Taliban want to go:
The Khmer Rouge regime murdered hundreds of thousands of their perceived political opponents, and its racist emphasis on national purity resulted in the genocide of Cambodian minorities.
Well the Board jackasses fired the jackass administrator last night. That’s a good look in an election year. Really hammer home to the electorate that you just don’t know what you’re doing.
“Vote for Ottawa Impact! We hire only the best, and fire them less than two years later!”
Update from this week: One of the idiot county commissioners lost a recall election this week to a Democrat! The Dem garnered 60% of the vote.
The Democrat who won on Tuesday will serve out the remainder of the term (through the end of the year). He and the idiot he booted have filed to run for a full term in November.
I do believe there are both Dems and quality Republicans running in each of the districts this time around. Hopefully, we see some change in November.
Happiness. It’s tiny, and probably too little, too late, but things like this, a few of our local elections, and the mass booing of MTG show that some people are tired of drama ALL the time, especially when it keeps things from actually getting done.
Again, very possibly just a few last gasps before the various PTB push ever less representative reforms to permanently lock in power (looking at places like Ohio and their efforts to just ignore recently amendments), but I’ll take false hope and minor glimmers of real hope!
Encouraging news!
Maybe my post #57 was correct after all. (trying to go back and quote it properly will most likely just screw up my ability to post to this thread again)
Possible lining to the cloud: this may screw things up enough to bring out opposition candidates and get them all thrown back out at the next election.
People who complain vehemently about government often complain even more vehemently when its failure to work screws up something they’re used to having functioning.
There unfortunately probably isn’t enough money left in the budget for this, but there really needs to be a memorial to these doofuses that can be pointed to by future generations as a reminder to not to repeat their mistakes. I’m thinking a statue of the board covered in feathers being run out of town on a rail, but I’m open to other suggestions.
Make a similar “Doofusname Lavatory Complex” sign to hang on municipal port-a-potties, and cycle through the relevant “Doofusnames” until you’ve “honored” all of them.
They could dig a crater and call it Ottawa Impact.
