My Cruddy Buddy

I suppose I could spend all day posting about Buddy Cianci, the mayor of Providence, Rhode Island but his latest round of antics just seems to take the cake.

To just hit the high points, Cianci is currently under indictment on 18 corruption charges. A citizen, Harold Meyer, developed a website http://www.buddycianci.com to call for his resignation in light of these indictments and other allegations.

Cianci, missing the point completely (as usual) doesn’t take umbrage that anyone is publicizing or accusing him of whatever shenannigans. Not our Buddy. He’s just upset that someone is using his name!

So, what does he do? In what Meyer describes as his “final descent into madness” he registers the domain names of people who weren’t even involved in this, but merely reported it, inlcuding M. Charles Bakst, (a Providence Journal Bulletin political columnist), Jim Taricani, (a WJAR Channel 10 reporter), and John DePetro, (a WHJJ radio talk show host) as well as Howard Sutton, the publisher of the Providence Journal Bulletin.

Uh … Buddy … don’t you have a city to run or something? Or at least a few court cases to preapre?

Sheesh!

hey, Euty, get away from all those corrupt politicians- come live in Chicago!
Um,
er,
Nevermind.

Rhode Island’s still a state?

I thought it was traded to Canada for six truckloads of lumber and a case of beer.

Don’t be dissin’ Buddy! I hear Providence wasn’t so pretty before he came along.

Buddy came to a town near us recently to have dinner with the local town council. Problems arose though when it was discovered that if more than a certain percentage of the council was there, it would constitute an official gathering and the goings-on would have to be open to the public and anything discussed would be fair game for the Freedom of Information act.

They rapidly revised the guest list to get them under the magic number. Too bad, I’m sure Buddy makes for really interesting dinner conversation.
