Family Guy: Who is This Bobby Cianci (Namesake of Chris' School)?

On Family Guy, Chris attends Bobby Cianci Junior High School.

A quick google search turns up [url"http://www.drumweb.com/member/bobcianci/"]this guy, apparently an obscure session musician.

So either Seth MacFarlane is whooshing me big time; or it’s an inside joke; or he’s a really big fan of an obscure session musician.

Anyone know who Bobby Cianci is?

Its Buddy Cianci actually. Buddy Cianci was a mayor of Providence, RI and has been under several corruption and RICO investigations, even spending time in jail while in office (no joke).

from the Family Guy Reference Archives:

Chris attends BUDDY CIANCI Junior High. It’s named for the extremely flamboyant former mayor of Providence who recently began a five year prison term for racketeering. His Jekyll and Hyde nature is often noted, as he oversaw an extremely successful revival of downtown Providence, all the time using City Hall as a source for bribes, kickbacks and illicit campaign money. A legendary figure in Rhode Island politics, he had his own pasta sauce, and became a talk show host when he put his political career on hold in the 80s after pleading no contest to beating his estranged wife’s boyfriend with a fireplace log. This show aired after his arrest in APRIL 2001, but before he was convicted.

Interesting. Kind of the opposite of Bobby Hill attending Tom Landry Middle School.

Thanks everyone for the information.

Apparently, I’m an idiot (confusing Bobby/Buddy when starting a thread).

I’m curious about the Tom Landry/Buddy Cianci middle school connection. I wonder if Seth MacFarlane took a cue from Mike Judge, or if this is just coincidence.

Beating someone with a fireplace log? Well, that sounds liek a scene that happened in Family Guy! A coincidence, or intentionally put in there by ol’ Seth?
