Yeah, but then Sulu will try to hit on EJsGirl’s mom!
Heh.
I tried it last night, it was so cool. It has a kickstand when not turned on, but it will balance itself when on (it stands there).
It took some time to get used to (you have to trust that it won’t tip over!), but I loved it.
I saw someone using one in Epcot. It looked very cool. It didn’t make any noise so I’m just learning now that it’s powered.
I would bet Walt Disney World was one of the first & major purchasers of the Segway - they’re used in the parks & resorts too.
In fact, they offer a tour of the World Showcase at Epcot where you get to ride the Segways after about an hour of instruction. It’s kind of pricey, but an absolute blast!
EJsGirl,
Take it from me, buy him the helmet.
The Segway has 5 gyroscopes in it and I still managed to flip one during my May trip to Disney World.
The hardest thing for me to remember was that when riding you are as wide as the machine. I clipped a raised brick walkway with the side of the wheel hub and flipped, first sideways then tilted and landed on my back bringing the Segway down on top of me. The helmet saved me a trip to the hospital. Wish I had been wearing a breatplate, as I had bruises and tenderness where the handles landed in my ribs.
And yes, I got right back on and finshed my tour. I would buy one for myself if I could afford one.
Frankly, I’d be more worried about the hip than the head! But I will suggest it, although he’s got the same “wanna look cool” thing that he’s had since high school! And believe me, he is about the coolest guy I know. Work a bit in the morning (or not), come home, go bodysurfing, take a nap while getting a tan, go for another swim, then have dinner or whatever.
I want his life. I just have to work my whole life to get it, I guess!
