My Dads in the ICU [RIP Dad]

Antinor…somehow I missed this up until today. You and your entire family are in my thoughts.

They put in the ventricle assist and he’s 100% on the ventilator so breathing and heart are all running on machines. They’re trying to let his heart completely rest for now and we’ll see in the morning. We can’t see him until tomorrow so everyone is going home to rest. After the heart attack, cardiac arrest and three open heart surgeries his heart is very weak. Just waiting to see what happens now. He’s still critical but not hopeless.

Thank you for taking time out to update us.
You’re all still in my thoughts.

I’m so happy to hear that. As always, I wish I could do more than offer my best wishes.

The latest implanted ventricular assist devices are really amazing. People have lived normal lives for years on them. In some cases, they give the heart a chance to recover and can be removed, but even if they have to stay in, they work amazingly well.

Good luck, I hope your dad recovers.

Thanks for the update, Antinor01. I know it’ll be tough to sleep, but you need it and so does your body. Keep thinking those positive thoughts as we all will for you and your Dad.

Quasi

Get some rest and fill us in tomorrow.

I just found this thread right now. Sending positive thoughts your way, and healing vibes for your dad.

Where there’s life, there’s hope.

Sending positive thoughts your family’s way.

We all slept, even mom got 12 hours last night. That’s about equal to what she’s slept since thursday. Nurse called and hes unchanged since later night. He hasn’t come out of the anesthesia yet (it’s been 17 hours) but they’re not overly worried about that yet.

Thanks again for support and for giving me a non hospital, non family place to get some of this out.

Antinor, best wishes for you, your dad, and family. BTDT, ain’t no fun.

Do take care of yourself and your mom - you can’t help anyone if you let yourself get too run down.

One new concern, we just got an update call from the nurse. He hasn’t produced any urine since early yesterday so the kidneys may be failing.

Heading to osu hospital now. He still isn’t awake and no kidney activity.

I’m hoping there is something they can do. Best wishes to you and your family.

Antinor, are you in Columbus?

Yes. We’re at the Ross heart center.

Hoping things have improved for your family tonight. I’ve got my fingers crossed just over the state line in WV.

I’m hoping the news is better for you and your family today** Antinor**. Sending healing thoughts from Australia.

kam

Thanks everyone. He still hasn’t woken and there’s a lot of concern there. We’re at 30 hours now. He’s not doing any breathing on his own and no response except a gag reflex. Theyre doing a bunch of diognostic work tonigh and updating in the morning.

Hoping for the best.
