Thank you, I will. I may need someone to take me out for a drink.
Thanks everyone. It really was very peaceful, it was less than 30 minutes from when they started slowing the machines until his heart and breathing stopped. We all sat right there, mom holding one his hands, me the other one and the other kids sitting with us. There was no huge drama like convulsions or anything, it was just like he was sleeping. Under the circumstances, we couldn’t have asked for a gentler, easier finish.
I will never know how the nurses on those wards do it, but I am so grateful for their care, gentleness and directness in speaking to us and helping clarify what the doctors were saying.
I will raise a glass to his memory tonight.
I have always thought the measure of a man was how his children turn out. Having met you IRL I feel safe in saying you dad was one of the good guys.
If you want someone to take you out for a drink when you get back I’ll go.
D and I join the rest of your family here in expressing our condolences. Your Dad was a fighter all the way, and I am sure he’d want you to remember him like that. We’re glad to know it was peaceful. Please take care of yourself, and, like the others, we’re here for you if you need anything.
I am sorry for your, and your family’s, loss. I hope you can take comfort that he passed peacefully, with loved ones at his side. My wish for you and yours is that happy memories of your Dad will comfort all of you in the days ahead.
