My Dads in the ICU [RIP Dad]

So sorry for your loss.

Just saw this thread. I’m sorry for your loss, Antinor01. This is similar to how my dad died. He actually seemed to recover in the hospital before surgery, though. So there wasn’t as much concern that he would not survive the surgery. He was even up and slow dancing with my mom in the room before he went into surgery. He did not survive the surgery. He lasted a couple days on machines before the family let him go.
I never got to see him through any of this. I was in Iraq when it all went down. I hadn’t seen him for about 8 months prior to the funeral.
I haven’t decided if not being there at the end was a blessing or a curse. I never had to see him go through any of that, but at the same time, I didn’t get to be there with him at the end. Sometimes I am glad that I never saw him in that condition. That the last memories I have of him were when he was healthy and lively when I visited before shipping back to Iraq. He was only 58.
Other times I just wish I could have been there.

I hope for you, the final moments were more a blessing than the curse I imagine it might have been.

Again, my condolences.

So very sorry.
