My daughter stumped me, any ideas?

Hey!

Nah, he was the ad guy on WKRP Cincinnati:wink:

Aren’t all vegatables really classified as fruit by definition?

Yes, but they are pretty juicy when you grind them up.

What about apples and pears? Depending on ripeness, they can be very non-juicy, especially when compared to citrus fruits. I’ve had pears that bore a close resemblance in consistency to green twigs – not very juicy.

A banana plant is a herb, the bit you peel and eat is a fruit.

Other non-juicy fruits; pumpkins, starfruit(I think), quince…

Kids ask the greatest questions.

This is fabulous! Thank you all for your input. I think that (like me), she’ll be pleasantly surprised at the answers supplied by the collective brain power found here.

Chokecherries. They are actually anti-juicy: They’re so astringent they suck moisture out of your mouth. Fun to eat.

No, but a lot of them are. Carrots are roots, lettuce and spinach are leaves, and rhubarb is stems, but tomatoes, peppers, beans, squash, and many others are fruits. Basically, anything that has the seeds in it is a fruit.

durian

No way!

Strawberries.

Have you ever seen a cranberry in it’s natural state? They’re sort of like thick, semi-hard seeds. You cook them and they pop open. Look for them in the produce section of your grocer, although I don’t know if you’ll find them “fresh” this late in the season.

Corn.

Yes, it’s technically a fruit.

Breadfruit definitely is not juicy!

I’m off to rent FARGO…

PawPaws–they’re a lot like a banana when it comes to consistancy, but they’re pod-shaped, not phallic.

Remember, that there are lots of edible things that are botanically fruits, but we don’t call fruits conversationally (e.g. cashews). One of the big parts of a the ‘conversational’ definition of a fruit is that it’s juicy (and sweet), so that’s why there aren’t a whole lot of non-juicy fruits: if it’s not juicy we don’t call it a fruit, we call it a nut or vegetable.

Your daughter may or may not be old enough to like this answer

I`m trying to eat here. I now have this vision of red snow and a foot with a sock on it and a guy trying to push the foot into the wood chipper with a piece of lumber.
Thanks.:stuck_out_tongue:
