My daughter stumped me, any ideas?

So we’re sitting around after dinner last night, when my daughter piped up with this question. “What fruit, other than bananas, isn’t juicy?” The ol’ spousal unit and I couldn’t think of any other non-juicy fruits, anyone have any ideas?

Acorns

Figs.

cranberries

Plantaines

Fruit Of The Loom

Dates?

Bread.

Avocado.

Currants.

Loquats.

Froot Loops.

I thought bananas were a herb???

At least you hope it ain’t juicy.

Raisins!
Mmmmmm…raisins.

And dried apricots.

(But those give me the shits.)

The common American English definition is a little more nebulous–and thus greater-encompassing–than the botanists’ definition.

Check out a Merriam-Webster if you get a chance. You’ll see.

Huh? Cranberries are juicy…hence cranberry juice.

And I don’t think you can really count dried fruit…that’s not a fair answer.
I’d probably have to go with avacodo too.
Dang, good question.

Dingleberries

Yuck!

I can think of two types of fruits that are “non-juicy”, one is the type you and your daughter identified, the starchy fruits like bananas, plantains, and breadfruit.

There’s another type, which includes the avocado as someone mentioned, which while not dry can not be called juicy. In this group I can come up with mainly tropical fruits, like tamarind, guava, papaya, and some tree melons like mamey.

Now that I think about it all these fruits seem to be tropical. Maybe there’s something there.

The botanical definition of a fruit is: the ripened ovary of a flower and its related contents. Therefore, there are many fruits which are not juicy, such as cashews, wheat, and rice.

IMO, avocados are somewhat juicy. Even bananas are juicy in some sense. Perhaps a better question is “what fruits aren’t squishy?”

Crunchberries.
