My Dog is on Prozac

Our dogs get their meds (our yellow lab, Isaac, gets twice-daily Benadryl) in bits of liverwurst. I couldn’t stand the thought of eating the stuff myself but it could be a lot worse, it’s not all that bad to handle. At least it doesn’t smell like the cat’s every-other-day stinky tuna. Yuuuuck.

My pup was on Clomicalm for about six months after I adopted him – he was the stud dog in a puppy mill and had severe issues with separation anxiety. The “dog-zac” helped him settle in and learn how to be a regular dog – my older dog taught him everything she knows. In fact, I put the older dog on it as well, for her OCD habit of constantly licking. It helped the puppy mill rescue significantly, but didn’t do much for the licker. So I finally weaned 'em both off.

I’m sure you’ll find it’s more common than you thought, but I was also amused that I had my dog on antidepressants. I gave their pills with a little peanut butter. Now that I’m on Wellbutrin (I quit smoking 10 days ago!), they hear the pill bottle and come running, thinking they get a treat! How silly is that?
