I live in Saudi Arabia. It is pretty much like everywhere else really. We got Pizza Hut. We got Baskin-Robbins. My life here is nothing special.
On the other hand, I do have a plan in the event my residential compound is attacked.
I will go get my pillow, phone and iPad. I will lock the door to my shipping container, turn off the lights, go to the bathroom, close the door and turn off the lights. Using the pillow, I will lie down in the bathtub and wait until I hear helicopters.
The Bad Guys got uniforms and police cars. The do not have helicopters. The bathroom is the strongest room in the place and has additional walls. The bathtub offers some protection, but more importantly, it is low. Most bullets fired by untrained people go high.
If I am on the road, I fully intend to take shooters out with my car.
Considering how most Middle Eastern construction is concrete and cinder block based, I’m surprised that you feel the need for additional walls. AK-47s can’t shoot through cinder blocks. Just lock the door, stay low and keep away from windows.
Yep, that’s exactly what I did back in Detroit in the late 70’s when I was a young and stupid teenager driving through one of the bad neighborhoods my parents told me not to drive through.
Told my dad some BS story to cover the loss of the hubcab. Shortly before he died I told him the truth. He said he sort of suspected there had been more to the story I told him, and that did explain the bullet hold in the rear quarter panel - he had noticed it but did say anything because he thought he might have acquired it going to or from work (he worked in Detroit proper while we were living in the suburbs at the time) and didn’t want mom (or the rest of us) to worry.
On foot and without cover, maybe, but in a car? The effective range of an AK-47, is, what, 200 meters in the hands of a trained shooter, and probably one quarter that for a terrorist shooting in full auto. In a car, you can reach that distance in seconds, while keeping a big hunk of metal between yourself and the enemy. There’s very little a rifleman on foot can do against a vehicle driving away from him. So run.
The effective range of an assault weapon is about 300M. The armor value of a car is fairly negligible. Running from a gun in a car is OK. In fact, it is probably the wise play.
But then again I am rather bloody-minded. If I get a clean run at them, they are going to be a smear on my Hyundai.
Does your Hyundai have a collision avoidance system? If so best to turn it off first. I have done some experimenting with my Subaru and it really wants to prevent your running into an obstacle ahead.
On average, maybe (I was trained with an M-16 at up to 250 meters). The Kalashnikov family of weapons, favored by terrorists around the world, is known for its relative lack of accuracy. Besides, effective range refers to aimed fire, and most Middle Eastern terrorists I’m familiar with aren’t really into aiming - they’re more about spray and pray. That’s not to say that they can’t get a lucky shot in; after all, all of those bullets have to go somewhere. Still, I like my odds in running away.
Some public testing information on the bullet resistance of common building materials to bullets. The Canadians tested a wide variety of materials, although they missed 7.62 x 39. 7.62 x 51 did go through cement block, but was stopped by a layer of clay brick veneer applied to the block.
Cars are bullet magnets. That said, I’m with Alessan in that it’s best to increase distance as fast as possible away from the armed threat. Further, hitting and disabling gunmen with the vehicle, without also disabling one’s vehicle, may be tougher than it looks.
Just pointing out the OP actually has an Emergency Terrorist Attack Response plan.
An Emergency Terrorist Attack plan is what the terrorists use in their attack. Especially with all the confusing lack of consistent uniforms & weaponry, remembering which side of the plan is yours can be difficult. But is super-important.
With that out of the way the tactics are about right. As befits a man with your experience.
In your container you’ve got cover and conceilment but no vantage. Hide but be ready to empty a clip through the opening door.
On the road … In a deuce and a half, run his sorry ass flat & keep going. In a 1000# FWD Hyundai sedan you’re asking to maybe kill him, but probably kill your car too. He’ll have friends. You won’t.
You know ambush doctrine both armed & unarmed. Use it. Battle is all business; no time to get cute.
