My engagement ring broke today

Today I looked down and noticed that the middle stone of my 3-sapphire engagement ring was missing.

It’s gone. We looked everywhere. I put it up until we can afford to get it fixed, probably in a few months.

At least I didn’t lose the entire ring …

sigh

After GingeroftheNorth’s saga involving getting her ring repaired, I paid the extra pile of cash to get an extended warranty when I bought Elenfair’s engagement ring. About two months later, one of the stones disappeared. Completely and totally covered, thankfully …

Are you able to purchase a long-term warranty at this time for the ring? It’s the only warranty that I’ve ever considered purchasing, and I’m glad I did.

 omg, SnoopyFan , I am soooo sorry. That’s terrible. I hope you find the center stone. But if you don’t, at least it’s replaceable.

When you do get it fixed, make sure you have the setting checked every so often, just to make sure none of the prongs are loose. I don’t know about you, but I knock my hand against something at least twice a day.

Hope everything turns out ok… did you check the dryer?:frowning:

I’m sorry to hear it, SnoopyFan.

I’ve known enough people who’ve had something like this happen (and I had a stone fall out of a ring, but didn’t lose the stone) to make this recommendation to all: have the settings of your rings checked by a jeweler periodically! Sometimes prongs become bent or wear down, or settings become loose. A repair bill is usually less upsetting (and expensive) than replacing a stone or a whole ring. Usually once or twice a year is sufficient to have them checked. Also, it’s not a good idea to wear rings with stones in them to sleep or to do any “rough” activities - I trade my diamond wedding set for a plain gold band before bed, housework, sports, etc.
