My English Longbows did well this weekend

I was asked by Josef Monuz to build 3 elbs for this years international flight shoots.
Flightshooting is a sport where you shoot for distance as opposed to shooting at a target. I built one for him, one for his wife and one for his son. All three bows set world records for distance. I was particularly happy with the bow I built for Josef. Because of of injury he needed to shoot a bit lighter than he would normally so I built him a 90# bow as opposed to a 120# bow. Some of the competitors are shooting bows up to 160#. Anyway he smashed the old record of 379 meters with a shot of 412 meters. His son broke the 50# record by about 1 meter and his wife smashed the old record in the ladies 50# class with a shot of 277 meters, old record was 249 meters.

Made my weekend!

Wow, that is very cool. Congratulations.

To break records in any mature field by 10ish percent is pretty darn amazing.

You’re right to be proud. Good on ya’! Proof that up against old age and skill (plus just a hint of treachery :)) youth doesn’t stand a chance.

Its nice to see fetching still alive in the world.

Very cool!

It was especially sweet since I have decided to quit building this year. I spent a little more time getting them right so I could go out with my head high and it paid off.

Wait, was that a record in the 90# class, or a record competing against 160# bows? Because if the latter, holy shit!

Unlimited weight class, anything past 70# falls into unlimited. The bow was 90#. I have to give a lot of credit to the archer for getting the most out of the bow. Josef is currently the leading flight shooter in the world. I was honored that he asked me to build him some bows.

Anyone who makes on-demand custom equipment for somebody world class is himself world class. Doesn’t much matter if the specific area is well-known or real obscure.

All hail HoneyBadgerDC; leading Bowmaster of the World!

Or whatever you properly call your specialized craft: Bowwright? Bowsmith? At any rate you’re a bow-beast for sure.

Are you going to retire and open a sushi bar, like Hitori Honzo?

The French had it coming.

Congrats!

No but I would like to open up a coffee shop with a mid evil theme. Might no work without beer.

Or mead. Or grog.

Way to go. H
ead held high indeed.

Sincere applause from a former war and target archer–kudos!

congrats!

Bowmeister? Bowmonster? Anyhow, congratulations and wow.

Bowyer, one who makes bows.

I got a nice note from the man whose record we took.

How very civilised!

Congratulations on your records
