My ex boss had three pictures of his wife in a bikini scattered around his office.

Three bikini pictures of his wife turned towards the visitor rather than towards him? “'Everybody, look how hot my wife is?”. Tacky. Wouldn’t bother me. Would think less of him.

This.

I promise I’m not making it up.

Definitely depends on the pics but three are too many! But I am also speaking as the one who doesn’t have a single picture up at her desk - I don’t like doing it, at all.

I would be offended, and I’m shocked that she didn’t put a stop to it. How can he expect people to treat his wife respectfully at office events if he’s putting her on display like that?

I don’t expect to see bikini pics of any sort in the office environment. While I can see how a certain mindset might think “it’s OK if it’s my wife, not just a random calendar darling” I would disagree. That makes it much worse in my estimation.

Maybe that’s all she wears?

Any chance he’s just using them to distract or disorient anyone who comes in his office? To what end, I can’t imagine, but maybe he feels he has an advantage when others are uncomfortable?

Don’t you have HR? Why aren’t they all over this?

No, it’s not about distracting. No, there was no HR.

It’s a small business and he ruled the roost.

I was probably just about the only female that was ever in his office though, at least with any regularity.

For me there is a big difference between what is in my opinion not appropriate in a situation (e.g. cheesecake photos at the office) and what bothers me personally (I’d not be bothered if people wandered about nude all day as long as they use a towel for sitting).

If that were at my office, he would be made fun of unmercifully to his face.

When my father ran a large department, he had a giant, full-sized print of his favorite painting hanging behind his desk, so that it was impossible not to look at when you walked into his office. Even though it’s a famous work of art, I always found it slightly unnerving and was surprised that no one ever complained.

Were there just the three pictures in the office, or were there lots more? If there were twenty pictures of her, things like her college graduation and such, and three of them happened to be in a bikini, that’s one thing. If the bikini pics are the only ones in his office, that’s a little different.

Then I’m going to say it sounds strange. Not knowing anything more about the situation, my guess would be he’s treating his wife like she’s a trophy he won.

There were two other pics of her with her daughter. They were both clothed in those.

I can assure you that he is a complete jerk and a sexist pig. I was told that he beat his wife badly enough to need hospitalization. I actually confronted the wife with the rumor and she confirmed it and said it only happened because he was drunk.

Of course he gets drunk every night, but whatever. He would also bring her to my desk and bend her over and plant a big smooch on her in front of me. I think he knew that I knew about the beating and this behavior was in response to that somehow.

I’m very happy that I do not work for him anymore.

Dear, dear Og, that poor woman.

:frowning:

I definitely find it tacky. Not sure it would rise to the level of it bothering me. Knowing he’s a drunk who beats her, yeah, that would bother me lots.

If it was me with the pics, it might bother me that half the people who come into my office would be eye-fucking my wife.

I could see it if he’s a cosmetic surgeon or a photographer. Otherwise, very poor taste.

Yeah, given that context, definitely inappropriate and harassing behavior. I’m glad you don’t work for him anymore and I hope that poor woman finds the wherewithal to leave him.

@ Revtim: Given nwye’s description of the pig, I think eye-fucking his wife is precisely what he wanted from his visitors.

Ah. Yeah. The bikini photos are him bragging about his prize possesion. I’m downgrading my rating from “Tacky” to “Gross and Disturbing”.

Once, and ONLY once, have I seen a bikini shot on a fellow employee’s desk.

But it wasn’t a male co-worker’s wife or girlfriend. It was a female co-worker’s teenage daughter.

Her cubicle wasn’t in a place where many people could readily see the picture. If it were, I imagine SOMEBODY would have objected (and others would have loitered, hoping to get a look at it).

Since I only saw it 3-4 times a year (whenever I had some valid reason to visit her on business), I saw no point in saying anything.
