My Favorite Dog got Snake-Bit :sad face:

Here ya go: bob smith | Flickr

Recent pic of the snake bite, and a recent video of Doxie showing his remarkable recovery from being crippled. It’s titled, “Doxie mid may” or something like that. I can’t remember exactly, I did it over 4 minutes ago. :o

About those pics and vids: They are kinda reverse chronological order (with the exception of the puppies, they kinda got tossed in the middle), so if you start at the bottom and work up, you see Doxie running before he got crippled, then his recovery, up to yesterdays snake bite.

Fun dogs, these Wieners!

Poor doggie. And nice pics. Wow, you are really out in the wilderness, aren’t you!

Poor Dixie! She’s making a very sad dog face at you.

Dixie update: She is doing very well. Swelling in her neck has gone from Ping-Pong ball size to Foos-Ball size (for our indoor sports enthusiasts). And she is wagging and eating the fat from my steak (loaded with drugs for her) on her own. I don’t have to force it down her throat. Because of the intense rain, nobody wanted to go for the daily Jeep ride, so that was thankfully avoided. Everybody happy, in the boxes, cocooned in their stinky blankies. God, that back room stinks…

My butt-hole is slowly unclenching due to these developments.

I think she is gonna be okay. :crying face, now:

Thank you all for your support and kind words. It really means a lot to me. I don’t have people to hang out with in real life, but you guys/gals are The Tops.

Skritches delivered to everybody, credited to The Dope! Now my fingers stink.

Yes. And yet only 20 minutes away from Legal Prostitution! Well, for now.

Yes. :frowning: But you shoulda seen her yesterday. I didn’t get pics. Was too preoccupied to do that. The silver ring on her muzzle is actually a Sharpie. Needed to outline the major damage to see if it was growing. Doesn’t seem to be, for now.

Good, I am doing my happy dog dance for the killas!

Yeah, its a load off, to be sure. I didn’t want to have to build a coffin in the rain.

Dude, stop. I can’t think of that while happy dancing.

Right!

Dixie is famous for her Happy Dance. As soon as she’s back at it, I’ll get it on camera and post it for you.

No woodworking, except for my front porch, in the near future.

Yay! Cant wait to see Dixie-dog dance!

She is much better today. Swelling in the neck is way down, she ate well, went out with the other dogs and seems much less miserable. She even did a little spin-dance this morning!

Just seeing this. So glad she’s getting through it all right. Good job getting her to the vet - I’m shocked in an area like that they didn’t have anti-venin on hand for her? What’s up with that?!?

Great!

Awww she looks sweet. Glad she’s on the road to recovery!

Oh they do.

They told me, with a straight face, it would be $1500-2000. And no guarantee of anything.

Hmmm. I wonder if you could get some to keep around for yourself. How much it would cost, how long it lasts, and so on. Maybe it doesn’t happen often enough to be worth doing, but that seems crazy high. Was that the emergency vet?

I’m glad she made it. skritches!

Dang, We oughta be in the venom catching business. Wonder how hard that would be? Hmmmm?

Really happy for Dixies recovery!

Wow! That’s crazy. IT looks like it is even worse for humans:https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2015/09/09/the-crazy-reason-it-costs-14000-to-treat-a-snakebite-with-14-medicine/?utm_term=.d21f891b5c0d

And the anti-venom itself is only about $200 online retail.

Anyway, all’s well that ends well; she’s making it through just fine.

She was right back at it yesterday! Eager to get in the Jeep and go a-huntin’. Her neck is almost back to normal, but her muzzle is still a little puffy.

Seems to be in good spirits.
