My first locked thread!

I turned another thread on its head, and I started one in IMHO, asking “Do You Sneeze On Strangers Who Bless You?” After a few puzzled replies, containing puns and jokes on my name, the distinguished TVeblen stepped in. He made a pun of his own, and he closed the thread. (I’m guessing that Veb is male.) I respect Veb a great deal, and I suppose there was a reason; I’m not throwing rocks.

My thread was a surreal, multilayered piece about irreverance and iconoclasm. It was intended to be confusing. If some folks got no deeper than that, confusion is enough.

I’ve been in strange times for a few weeks. This is the second time in a few weeks I’ve gotten in trouble for an absurd act. I’m careening toward my retirement in a few months. I’ve been rattled and jumpy. Depression is usually about two steps behind me, when it’s not standing on my shoulders swinging a big hammer. :frowning: Tree pollen has been making my eyes water, and sometimes that’s enough of a nudge to stumble into feeling bad.

Black pants let everyone know you have a cat.

Well, I can tell you one thing: Veb is female.

How much of a list do you have?

Sometimes I list to starboard a couple of degrees, but I suppose you meant something else. What was it?

Sorry. I was just trying to lighten the mood with a smart-ass remark contrasting careening (tipping over a boat to scrape the hull or standing a car on two wheels to make a curve) with careering (speeding toward one’s destination–in this case careering toward the end of a career). It wasn’t intended as anything heavy or derogatory.

I understand your point now. Actually, I had considered “careering,” but I thought it would look like a pun. Some of my time lately has been spent tipped up on two wheels, though. There’s been a feeling of impending calamity.

Mission accomplished!
As far as your dilemma, I say run off to a foreign country for a while and get some new perspective. Also, maybe some Flonase. ~ FWIW

Sorry you’re feeling so down and beset, Nott, and sorry that my closing your thread made you feel worse. You aren’t in any kind of trouble at all, though. Your thread was just wasn’t in the right forum. For some reason the board was really crawling for a while this morning. I did try twice to move your thread to MPSIMS but got timed out, so I just rewrote my comment and closed it instead.

If it’s any consolation, the inspiration for my lame sinus pun was my own raging spring allergies. Got the whole package: hot, itchy eyes, sneezing, stuffed up, slammer headache from congestion, etc. And that’s with Flonase. Believe me, I wouldn’t have been up at 5:00 damned a.m. on a Saturday otherwise.

::companionably hands Nott a Kleenex Comfort tissue and, after a moments thought, a cold beer::

Hang in there, friend. This too shall pass.

Thanks, Veb. I just got back from the drugstore, where I got some Claritin and forgot :smack: to buy another thing I went for. I think I’ll go for a walk. Maybe the pollen will make me sleepy.

I feel your pain.

I had two threads closed on me the other day. The one of them good thing because it was a stupid thread to start and people were calling me names and such, but I think the other one must just have been closed as punishment for the stupidity of starting the first one.

I have never had a thread closed… I did have one deleated in the middle of the night out of GQ.

Granted it was an odd question about the MPH a line of dominos would fall.

Yeah ok real weird, but I have stranger thoughts and questions late in the evening.
