My Fractal generator (pretty pictures)

I recently had to write a braindead fractal generator for my course (thanks Mathochist and all who helped me with the problem space coordinate problem I was having!) so when I was bored yesterday, I wrote a nice version, with a lot more features and lots of colours.

You can get it here : http://www.dmulligan.fsnet.co.uk/FractGen.exe

It’s still in development, the next version, which I hope to have finished by Sunday will have some more options (like being able to keep the same ratio when zooming in so the image doesn’t become skewed) and some minor GUI additions and refinements.

Any problems using it, just ask. Hope you enjoy it.

Sorry, the correct link is http://www.dmulligan.fsnet.co.uk/FracGen.exe

It’s less than 500kb for fellow 56k users.

I love fractals, and would have loved to try yours out. However, the whole page doesn’t fit on my monitor screen and there is no close or minimize button on the top like most applications these days have. I imagine there may be some sort of exit button at the bottom, but there is no scroll bar, so I can’t get to it. My guess is that if I changed my screen resolution to be smaller, there would be more to see, but then I wouldn’t be able to make out the print. Suggest in your next version you make it a tad friendlier to those of us who don’t have 20/20 vision. Nice try, though.

Looks great to me. Worked perfectly. It would be nice to be able to zoom within the program, however.

To zoom, click and drag your mouse across the are you wish to zoom in on. You’ll notice the complex plane coordinates change. Click draw and it will zoom in for you. The newest version (not uploaded yet) draws a box around the zoomed in area, and has an option for keeping the correct aspect ratio so the image does not become skewed.

Sorry :frowning: I’ll try to fix it in the next version for people still running on lower resolutions (I stupidly assumed that nearly everyone ran > 1024x768).

Ah, ahem. Yes. This was the part I was missing before. Thanks! :o
