My friend is missing.

Joanna disappeared a couple of days ago, and I don’t think she’s ever coming back.

If you see her, please tell her to get her ass home. Monstro (her brother) and me miss her terribly, and we’re running out of tears to shed.

Sorry about that…

…but I think your title is a bit misleading. I really thought you were talking about a person. Maybe I’m just dumb.

Hope she turns up, though.

monstro, that is so sad. I would be devastated if anything happened to my babies. That’s all I’ve got. :frowning: Here’s sending out prayers hoping that she’ll turn up safe and sound and soon. Lots of hugs too.

Poor kitty, I’m sure she’s just as terrified as you are and undoubtedly missing you like crazy.

Oooh, I hope she comes home soon too, monstro.

hugs

Joanna, you get home right now young lady. Do you hear that?

It sucks when pets run off. I’d be so down if my cats went missing. Here’s hoping she finds her way home safe and sound soon.

Right after we first moved to Boulder, my wife blessed our home with two of the most adorable kittens in the world. We named them Lewis and Clark.

One hot summer evening, when the boys were a year old, our cantankerous Sealpoint Siamese, Savanna, took it upon herself to slide open the patio door. It was only about an hour before we discovered the open screen, and by Clark’s demeanor, that Lewis had escaped.

Needless to say, that was an awful night, and I very quickly busied myself with tactical measures. While heaping bowls of cat food congealed on our two stoops, I leashed up poor Clark with the idea of “sniffing out” his brother. Of course, that failed miserably, as did my yowling and caterwauling. Finally, in the creeping twilight, I resorted to strapping on a headlamp and tooling around the neighborhood on my wife’s little pink Huffy Strand Cruiser, exchanging every ounce of humility for growing desperation.

As darkness fell, we resigned ourselves to the idea that Lewis D. Kat had left us for good.

At daybreak we again hit the streets, a bit bleary and mostly hopeless, but I literally hadn’t stepped 30 feet into the adjoining Open Space when I heard my wife yell “B! B!!! Hurry!!” In almost plain sight, behind the ornate planter on the porch across the street, little Lewis peered out, dirty, shivering, and forcefully bitter. It was virtually the last place we would have looked, and if it weren’t for my wife’s tripping on the curb, we would never have found him.

Don’t give up hope, monstro. Joanna could be near. If she’s an indoor cat, she’s very likely hiding someplace safe.

We’ll be thinking of you.

:frowning:
I’m sorry your dear cat is missing. I hope she finds her way home.

Monstro, my wife & myself volunteer for a local Humane Society, and we often get reports of lost or runaway cats. Here’s what we tell them:

  1. Before the cat runs away, get them I.D. tags, 'coz once they wander, it’s too late. (I know - 20/20 hindsight, but…)
  2. Call all of your area shelters, to see if anyone has turned in a stray.
  3. Call your local police department.
  4. Call Animal Control - you do NOT want your pet staying there for any legth of time, for reasons I will not elaborate.
  5. Get in touch with your local papers, and put a “Lost Kitty” notice in - in some markets, it’s a free service.
  6. Get flyers and posters up.
  7. Speak to your neighbors and have them keep an eye out for your cat.
  8. Leave food and water outside, just in case Joanna turns up in the wee hours.

Good luck, keep looking, and don’t give up hope. Cats are notorious wanderers, and show up again days later as if nothing had happened.

Here’s a good link on searching: http://www.lostmycat.com/lostcat.html

It is written from a British point of view, but there is good info and it will even generate a lost cat poster if you want to print some up. I have heard that most indoor cats will not wander far, and may in fact be hiding very close to home.

Good luck, I hope she comes home soon.

Oooh, I hope you find her soon. To give you some hope, I lost my Punkin for a week before he came home, and I lost my Molly for 10 days!!! before she came home. Both times I was sure they were dead.

Good luck and don’t despair. I think every cat I have ever owned has done a temporary disappearing act at one stage or another. One cat that I “owned” just turned up one day and helped itself to our cat’s food. It hung around for weeks and then started disappearing and reappearing at random intervals. One of our neighbours left an insulting note about how they “had to feed our cat because we weren’t feeding it” and it came begging at their place. It turned out that several households all shared the same pet cat and none of us knew where it came from.

monstro, I’m so sorry. :frowning:

I know it’s not much of a comfort, but my cat was gone for five weeks. He returned alive and well. Albeit very thin.

Good luck. Keep on searching!

monstro, you have my heartfelt sympathies. I hope your friend returns. I love my own cat (sometimes I think I am the pet, and she the owner) dearly. She is one of my closest friends. Good luck.

monstro, just another post of sympathy and good thoughts. I, too, had a cat disappear and re-appear. I hope that is the case with Joanna.

Thanks for the words of sympathy. Sadly, she’s still gone. I went out last night and walked around the block, calling her name. But she didn’t come out. It’s cold outside (relatively speaking), so now I’m worried that she’s shivering somewhere.

I’m going to find the local animal shelter and see if she’s turned up there.
