[My friend was killed in the] Oregon community college shooting [edited title]

Lancia, you said you’d heard one professor was OK. Is that the favorite one from the OP?

Didn’t seem to help a lot, did it? In fact, can you cite one situation where being a “gun-free zone” helped in any way? I can’t recall any.

Seems like another religious fanatic? They’ll find out pretty soon. My prayers go out to the injured and the families affected by this senseless tragedy.

Seriously? How many schools didn’t have mass shootings today?

It may not stop this type of shooting, but could prevent an incident with people who are just carrying guns around get carried away. Most “criminals” start out as law abiding citizens.

This happened because?

Why do you think? Crazy? Existence of guns in the world?

Question one: Has an intercity school full of gangs, and clubs and much racial unrest & probably many homemade weapons on students on any give day been shot up?

Question two: ‘Gun free zone’ help or hurt or there is not enough data yet? Your opinion on that question???

More work on medical * psycho-testing ** … either both, but weighted towards **

Really? :smack:

My search-fu is failing me, but a few years back a student tried this at another college, one in Israel. He was soon stopped by armed staff (and maybe students).

Making something like this about 2nd amendment gun-rights is just so tedious and pathetic.

Yeas, that was her. She’s ok, as is another professor I knew and had messaged. I’m waiting to hear from a third.

Rumor has it it was a remedial English comp. class that was targeted. If that’s the case, there’s a good chance the prof that was killed was one of several I had worked with when I was there.

Jesus H. Christ.

The point of gun-free zones isn’t that anyone thinks signs magically protect people; it’s so that if anyone on campus sees someone with a firearm, they know for a fact that the person is in violation of the rules and doesn’t need to worry about whether they have a permit or not.

Heard from the thrird prof I knew. She was out sick today, and was not on campus.

Thank god. Glad those you care for turned out to be okay.

Is this factually correct?

Or the shooter can NOT ignore the signs and use that information to it’s fullest extent.

Haven’t confirmed this but it’s been reported that the shooter asked people what their religion was.

There is a tremendous lack of information regarding this starting with who the shooter was, what he supposedly posted and any motive.

It was hours before they reported the shooter was a male.

It also tells the shooter there is completely defenseless people at that location. Excellent hunting for anyone sick enough to commit terror.

We’ll never know if an armed teacher could have made a difference. Maybe so, maybe not. Depends on their training and if they were in the right location to act. We have a lot of veterans after 12 years of war. Some of them might work at the college.

So, of course, the answer is to have armed security at every classroom door with AK-47s, or hell any public soft target: Churches, theaters, stores and supermarkets, etc.

He was able to kill and injure dozens of people in under a minute. If he knows the teacher is armed, guess who’s the first shot? Yay, free gun!

I wasn’t suggesting armed guards. Trained employees that worked there anyway could be armed and conceal carry. I stress trained. Preferably veterans, active duty military reserve, or ex police holding various jobs in admin or Faculty. No guarantee they’d be in the right place at the right time. But any advantage against these nut jobs helps.

He already had a gun. He can’t shoot everyone so if there are employees with CCW’s then the school is no longer a soft target.

God Dammit! God Dammit!!

I’m crying as I type this. Seriously, I think this is the first time I’ve ever actually cried over one of these shootings. I’m just overwhelmed.

I know that we will never solve this fucking problem.

My heart is just breaking for all these people.
