My girlfriend is coming home with the flu in 7 hours. What can we do to protect ourse

Mississippienne spent last weekend in Colorado visiting some friends. She asked me to bring some medicine to the airport with me when I come pick her up because she caught the flu over there and has had it all weekend.

We live with my 69-year-old father and I’ve been sick so many times this season it’s not even funny. Spring break’s also coming next week and I was sick for it last year, so, God as my witness, I will not be sick for it again! Also, my father is elderly and is in the danger group for influenza. I really don’t want him to catch this.

So what can we do to prevent ourselves from getting sick? I can sleep in another room, but what about the airborne nature of the virus? Do I go around and sanitize everything? Wash my hands 50 times a day? Please help!

Hasn’t your father been vaccinated?

Well, yes, he has, but I haven’t. :frowning:

Know How the Flu Spreads

One thing you can do is make sure you have antibacterial handsoap at all of your sinks in the house (bathroom, kitchen, laundry room) and make sure everyone washes their hands often.

If she’s got any head stuffiness, get her some Anti Viral tissues to use, and make sure she doesn’t throw her tissues away in the “community” trash can where someone else might end up touching it. Give her a plastic grocery bag to carry around and put her tissues in, then tie up the bag before throwing it away.

Give her her own cup to drink from and make sure everyone knows that it’s her cup and don’t drink from it. Make sure she drinks plenty of water for her own sake too.

This isn’t professional advise - just professional “mom” advice from my mom

Some good advice here already - I second frequent washing of hands, of everyone in the house.

You might ask your father’s doctor whether he should get a supply of Tamiflu, just in case…
