Yeah, but for a lot of chicks the appearance of bisexuality is a fashion statement. Straight chicks on bars kissing each other, touching each others’ breasts and giggling a lot. I’ve read people’s profiles which say, “I’m straight, but I like kissing girls” which seems to me to be like “I’m a straight guy but I love sucking cock.”
I’ve known I was bisexual since before I hit puberty, and these “bi until graduation” and “I kiss girls because it gets me more dates/gets my boyfriend off” rack me right off. Not to mention the huge number of “bisexual” girls who say “…but I could only have an actual relationship with a guy.”
I don’t take offense at someone suggesting that it’s a fashion statement; I take offense at the fact that so often that’s true.
A bisexual friend of mine was recently dumped by another bisexual friend of mine. Why? Bi-Girl B had just found her ex-boyfriend again, and basically said the kind of relationship she had with Bi-Girl A just couldn’t compare.
So because I’m a teen girl and say I’m bi, I’m just being trendy?
Right, thanks. I’m sure you know much more about my sexuality than I do.
I know there are girls that claim to be bi just because they think it’s cool, but it’s silly to assume they all are.
It’s quite possible that part of the reason you see more bi females (whether they really are or not…) is that it’s become more acceptable for females to be more open about sex and what they want.
I only take offense at someone suggesting it’s a fashion statement when it feels they’re also implying that that’s the only reason I say I’m bisexual.
No. But a lot of your fellows might be. And most of the teenagers I knew who came out as bi were. I’m 21, so I’m still safely in the “lesbian until graduation” range of age. But I’m not something like that, I’m just gay and that’s how I am. You could easily be the same, and nobody’s said that’s not a possibility. Only that along with honest to goodness bisexuals we now seem to have a crowd of pseudo-bisexuals or something. I tend to refer to myself as “gay” rather than “lesbian” because for some reason people seem to take that word more seriously. YMMV.
Uh…who said that? Because I’ve read this entire thread twice, and I didn’t see anyone say that. I saw people suggest that some, perhaps even many, teenaged girls who say they are bisexual are either confused or exaggerating/outright lying for effect, but I didn’t notice anyone saying anything like “Any and all teenaged girls who say they are bisexual are just trying to be cool”.
Teenaged girls who say they are bisexual, dye their hair red, and wear lots of tacky silver jewelry are a different story, but I’m sure even then there must be a few sincere ones.
Im glad you put that last line in or I’d have been DEEPLY ofended. I’ve been dying my hair red for two years, and have been out as bi sexual to my close friends, and boyfriend for almost a year. (I don’t usually wear silver jewelry though.) I’M BI SEXUAL - IT IS NOT A FASHION STATEMENT.
Exactly. Unless it’s your own personal relationship that’s getting messed with by somebody’s less-than-wholehearted devotion to hetero-/bi-/homo- sexuality, it ain’t anyone’s damn business but theirs.
You’re right, nobody did say that. I’m just a bit defensive because of all of the comments (most of them assumptions or generalizations) that I have heard from so many people.
I know quite a few supposedly bi teenage girls don’t have any real interest in women, and like most people, it seems, I’m tired of it. They make folks wary of dating genuine bisexuals and just make us look bad.
Ah, but it’s the silver jewelry that’s the biggest giveaway! It can’t be just any silver jewelry though, it’s got to be both big and tacky. It’s been my experience that the sort of young woman who will say any old thing for attention/shock value (e.g. “I’m a bisexual vegetarian Buddhist vampire!”, apologies to any real bisexual vegetarian Buddhist vampires out there) is often the sort of young woman with an unusual fondness for big, tacky silver jewelry. Maybe it’s to ward off werewolves.
But still, you can never be sure until you actually get to know a person. Some people just have bad taste in accessories, after all.
Apropos of nothing, I did want to mention that I think AngelicGemma is a pretty cool username. I used to draw some cartoons with two girls named Angel and Gemma.
I am the very model of a trendy faux bisexual
I dress in black to show that I’m a tortured intellectual
My piercings have gone septic but at least I’m not respectable
I think that labels stink and that Nutella is delectable
My S.O. is a motos, like the last one and the one before
I touched a boy in college but I don’t do that anymore
Now boys are just for hugging, if they get too fresh they’re out the door
I hate it when a guy wants sex, that outlook is a major bore…
lmao. And there I was thinking people wore tacky silver jewerly because they couldn’t afford gold, or just liked it. lol
