My Helliday week

For everyone out there who enjoyed a four-day weekend this Thanksgiving, ponder my tale of woe:

I work for a vending machine company. My job is to take all the money that’s collected from our company’s vending machines and run it through counters. Now not only do we never get four-day weekends at our company, but because of the all-sacred collection schedule all the work that would have been done Thursday had to be done the rest of the week. In addition, the drivers wanted to work as little as possible Friday, so since the schedule was already screwed up, the drivers pre-collected as much of Friday’s work as possible so they could go home early.

The result was that I did 4 and 1/2 days work in three days. Then I had Thursday off. Then Friday I did the half-days work left over. Then do I get a break? No, then since I had so much “free time” left over Friday (bought by half-killing myself earlier that week), I get drafted to work on a two-month backlog of filing that our new and stupid secretary hasn’t been able to keep up with.

In short, my “holiday” week has been harder and more stressful than if I’d simply worked Thanksgiving. And now I get to look forward to doing this again, two weeks in a row, for Christmas and New Years. I can hardly wait!

Lumpy - sorry your week has sucked. Maybe you will enjoy a bit of a break very soon. Your post made me remember some of my friends that have worked in retail. This is the most difficult three weeks for them. I also have a friend that works for UPS. Wow. Those folks hit it very hard this time of year.

Take a break and enjoy a little r&r.

Damn! I’d try to find a different job. Right, easier said than done. Good luck!

See OP, only this year add that I had a cold all week! And I couldn’t even call in sick because we are desperately understaffed; If I’d broken both legs, I would have had to work on crutches. I hope I live to see the holidays fall on a Friday someday.

Those coin counter things are really fun to watch. Is it really that much of a bummer job? Sounds fun…

Yipes!

It’s “The Night of the Living Thread”!

I thought I was reading posts from a few days in the future for a minute there…

[sub]sorry about yer cold.[/sub]

Hehe, nothing like thinking you’ve slipped into a time warp first thing in the morning.

I can sympathize - sorry your holiday week sucks. I drove 8 hours with a raging case of the flu to see my fiance after 7 LONG weeks of being apart, and right after I got here, he got called into work because one of his fucking little lazy carriers didn’t deliver their papers today. So he’s out delivering their newspapers. His job sucks. And since I have the flu, I’m being a complete and total bitch who doesn’t feel like being touched, and we still have to cook Thanksgiving dinner this afternoon, but he has absolutely NOTHING to cook with in his apartment (thank God we’re registering for our wedding or we’d be screwed), so we have to go to his parents to use their stuff since they’re out of town. And all I want to do is sleep.

Sorry, I just borrowed your rant to rant.

I’m hating the holidays right now.
