Ok who else has to work on this stupid friday?

Kinda useless to be open today, I’m a dispatcher for bike messingers and I plan on dispatching about 15 jobs today (usually I dispatch 550+) but my boss did bring in some homebrewed beer for me to drink, still it’s kinda retarded to be open today.

yeah, I hear ya. I’m at work today too.

oh, wait a minute. I’m in Canada. We had our TG last month, so today is a normal work day. so sorry chump.

tee hee

Well at least I don’t have to WORK I’m trying to get convince everyone that calls not to send out the job. The whole point of my existence for today is not to do any work but that takes lots of work which sucks.

Not only do I have to work today, but I work in retail in a downtown mall. Please pity me. Our business today will be
a)incredibly busy as shoppers make their annual pilgrimage downtown to see the decorations, or
b)much slower than planned for as shoppers swarm to the early-bird specials at all the suburban malls where they live, this being a downtown that has very little going on after 5pm or on weekends.

Either way, my boss will be in hyper-active mode trying to get all the new seasonals working to the plan, my main co-worker will be stressing out because she has a low tolerance for confusion, clutter and chaos, and I will be stressing because I can’t help alleviate her stress because I thrive on the things that drive her wild. Plus, I don’t go in until 1pm, at which time the place will either be humming along & I’ll have to struggle to get in the groove, or there will be no customers and my boss will be frantic.

Retail is hell. This is my last Christmas in retail. I’ve got to get out of retail. These are my mantras. Please say a prayer for my sanity today.

Yeah, I’m clocked in also. Only person on the whole floor. Strangely, I am actually going to do some work today. I have been putting much work off for a while now, so it’s a quiet day to catch up. Maybe I’ll take a nap in between. We have nice couches.

I’m working. Worked yesterday, too. This is not the norm for us. The plant is in an outage, replacing steam generators, which is done every 10 years. So we have lots of people working, we are on 24/7, which means 12 hour shifts, 6 days a week. But that’s ok. I’m very thankful that I have a good job, sometimes I have to make sacrifices, but it’s worth it. This is the first time ever I’ve had to work Thanksgiving, and maybe Christmas, too. Time will tell. But by March, things will be back to normal and it will be ok.

I was supposed to work today but my son got sick last night so I get to take the day off.

Since I was up at 6am anyway, I went to WalMart for some cough meds for him and Good God! I pity anyone in retail today! Especially those places running the “Special Christmas Sale! 6Am-11am!”

That place was a nuthouse!

Here.

And my job relies upon me getting information from people who won’t be around, because they aren’t working.

Fun,

fun,

fun.

Im working today as well. The school bells ring, the kids come in and … well Thank God it’s Friday!

Non-retail, non-medical, non-emergency, non-police worker on the clock here. The funny thing is, the trio of people who need to approve the project I’m working on have all taken vacation time today. I guess I’ll be reading all the threads on the SDMB today.

BUT, if the boss had brought in homebrew, I wouldn’t mind being here. You lucky SOB.

Yep. I work in a store that sells mostly Xmas trees and decorations. And I’m supposed to work tomorrow and Sunday, even though they told me three weeks ago that I could have the weekend off, and racinchikki is coming over.

Hah. None of us furriners get today off – it’s just another working day.

Those of you who are working today, hey, at least you’re making money today. I’m working as a temp for a government agency, so I can’t work today because the office is closed, but since I haven’t been working there long enough, I don’t get holiday pay either. Long weekend: yay! Only getting paid for three days: boo!

You have my utmost sympathy, Kit. Altogether I’ve worked more than half my life in retail (both clothing and food), and I ALWAYS got stuck working the day after both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanks to currently being unemployed, this is the first day-after-a-holiday I haven’t worked since…???

The only nice thing about working this dreaded shift is the deep appreciation you have for your bed when you get home!

Yes, I’m working today. I guess people’s computers still foul up today. Though I was hoping everybody would be off on vacation or shopping and we’d be nice and slow today. alas, that is not the case. :frowning: <sob>

I’m seeing patients today. My schedule got booked up with people who wanted to come in on their day off to get things taken care of. Now none of them are showing up.

Quagdop, I feel for you. I used to work in an optometrist’s office, and weekend and holiday bookings were gone weeks early. We phoned everyone to remind them that they had an appointment, and asked if they were still coming, but we still had about a 50% show-up rate. And most of the people that did come, came in late. Grrr.

Thanks, Arwen. Aure Entuluva! (Quenya for “The Day Shall Come”. In this case, the day is December 19th).

I live in scotland so we dont celebrate thanksgiving. I had to go into work today per normal also. It is nearly 4.00 and I finish at 5.00 so wopeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I mistakenly posted on another thread, I had Turkey Day off but I had to come in today and do nothing. With the fed civil service and military types taking a 4-day extended weekend, there is nothing but a bare minimum of us private contractors at the office.

However, without the military and civil service types, our workload has become nearly zero today. I had an enjoyable nap from 9.45a to just now, whereupon I have decided to post this entry up on the message board and check EBay on the internet.

I will be logging into bored.com very soon after I return from the gym and get a fresh bag of Cheetos for my post-luncheon activities.
