My home town makes....

My hometown produces nearly half of the world supply of toothbrushes.
It also produces the entire world supply of Prell and Pert shampoos.

Nope, it’s actually International Paper …

Thought of another one … Stearns life vests are also made here.

You don’t like cheese steaks? What kind of Philadelphian are you? Just for saying that, you can go and live in Camden. We don’t want you anymore.

You forgot a few. We also produce ships, Esprix, and dangerous intersections. In fact, I live about 1.5 miles from two of the most dangerous intersections in the US:
Red Lion Road and Roosevelt Blvd(US 1)-Second place
Grant Avenue and Roosevelt Blvd-Third place
They are less than 1 mile apart.

Philly also produces the purest heroin on the Eastern Seaboard.

Ah, Philly. So much to be proud of.

Well, if we go for the greater Lansing area, we’ve got the Oldsmobile Catera, Chocolate cheese (at MSU dairy), and Melting Moments ice Cream. In Okemos, there used to be (don’t know if there is anymore) a shop that did custom knitting. Spartan Motors RV’s. ahh - Dart Container - one of the worlds largest maker of styrofoam cups (Mason), Mint oil (St. Johns)

How’s that?

Currently my town makes nothing, but we used to have the worlds largest casket factor. It’s now a parking lot. The guy from Blues Clues is from my town, but I’m not sure that that is a good thing. There was also the Body Works. They made cars and trolleys(sp?) and such. Last I knew the trolley in Disney World was made here. But that was a while ago and they probably replaced it by now. Some of the richest iron ore deposits in the country are supposedly under my town, but they stopped mining it when the mines flooded. We also used to make some of the finest cigars in the country, but that was a long time ago. Now that I think about it my town’s just one big has-been.

Monroe, MI: La-Z-Boy chairs, walleye with mercury poisoning, and Spillson’s Rice Pudding. I actually don’t know if Spillson’s is sold anywhere outside of Monroe County, but oooooh Jesus, it’s the goddamn BEST rice pudding 'round these here parts.

Christie Brinkley and J. Sterling Morton (founder of Arbor Day) were born in my town.

“The Brick Capital of The World” is entitled to the little town in North Carolina where I have always lived. And buddy they make some bricks, one of the smallest counties in the state and we have 5 huge brick companies. Also a huge Tyson plant and several chicken plants so I guess we also produce a lot of chickens. But to the horror of most people, tobacco is still our number one crop.

I too am from el paso and all I can say is that my hometown makes… most other towns look like slices of heaven.

My hometown makes me sick, and usually bored.

(Columbia, SC)

Being in SC makes me ashamed and defensive most of the time. Why do people despise SC (and the South, too) so damn much?

Searching, I think South Carolina is a beautiful state. I have been all over the U.S. and, believe me, your home is a paradise compared to others.

You even have that cool road side attraction “South of the Border”! When I was living in New Jersey (not as nice as South Carolina!) I took a trip to Florida. When I stopped at “South of the Border” it actually made me homesick for my native home of California!

Not only that but the people are friendly and always willing to help out if you’re in need.

Charleston is a gorgeous city, I love how they have maintained the old architecture! The rich history of South Carolina has contributed to what we are as a nation and a common people.

So, Searching, you have a lot to be proud of in your home state. Not everyone thinks badly of it.

yeah well there is that whole confederate flag thing… and that whole jesse helms thing… and that whole “i can’t breathe its so hot” thing… and that whole kudzuu thing… and that… well you get the point =P

My hometown is home to the Autumn Harp factory. What do they make? Well, they are the makers of the Unpetroleum (sp?) brand lip balm. They also make lip balm for Gap, Tommy Hillfinger, and other companies.

That’s it for my town. But my state makes Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, maple syrup, etc…

My hometown (El Dorado, AR):

Cooper Tire (Industrial rubber products)
Anthony Lumber
Murphy Oil Co. (Petroleum)
Dumas Candy Co.
Great Lakes Chemical

Where I live now (Stillwater, OK):

MerCruiser (Boats, outboards, jetskis, etc.)
Armstrong (Vinyl and tile floors, counters, etc)
Creative Labs Tech Support Center
Graduates of Oklahoma State University
Smoky Joes (Barbeque grills and smokers)
Oberlon Press (That put most magazines printed in the US together)
Eskimo Joe’s (Resturant/bar made pretty famous by OSU alumni all over the world)

Home of the most signifigant microsecond of the 20th Century (White Sands MR, NM). Since then, nothing much.

Elgin, Il

We used to make watches and caskets-telling combination for this town
Now we’re known for the Grand Victoria riverboat, the Panasonic plant, the First Usa site and the plant where they make Country Crock margarine.
The town I was conceived in-Galena, Il-where my family comes from, makes tourists feel very happy. Damn tourists-Galena used to be so quiet and the town for finding great, cheap antiques. Now it’s overrun with tourists :frowning:

Virtee! Wow! You made my night! I’ve always adored SC for what it is, and not many others seem to share my sentiment-especially the fellow teenagers I know, who are desperate to get out as far away as possible. Silly kids these days.

glares at Kaje good-naturedly. And what’s so good about YOUR state, ay?

fort worth,tx

home of:

American Airlines
Radio Shack
Bombay Company
Pier One
architecture masterworks:
the first Tadao Ando designed Museum in the States
the Kimball Art Museum

but, defending Kaje, Texas is a swell place!
and yes, I left El Paso as soon as I could, but I really hate it when someone else puts it down…it is my hometown after all!

and what I would do for some Chico’s Tacos right now…

Forgot the best thing about Louisville! Makers Mark, baby!!! Used to live there, got hooked on the stuff. Don’t forget UPS.

You don’t like cheese steaks? What kind of Philadelphian are you? Just for saying that, you can go and live in Camden. We don’t want you anymore.

I neglected to mention, that’s what I do for a living…sling steaks over a hot grill, all day long. If I never see another cheesesteak as long as I live, it will be too soon.

Cattle, oranges, and phosphate for fertilizers (also some of the actual fertilizers.) Woo-hoo.
