Probably few of you know (and probably fewer care, but what the heck) that on August 17th, I will be getting married to my Beloved. And until I met her, I had no real understanding of what the term Beloved means.
We were going to go to Germany for Oktoberfest for our honeymoon, but events have conspired to deny us that opportunity. In it’s place, we have decided to be Traditional and go to Niagara Falls.
My question to all of you is this: on out trip from New Jersey to Niagara Falls, what areas would you recommend to go through? What sights would you recommend to see? Places to go, things to do, etc.
Ummmm…neither of us is looking for white-water canoeing, as an example. We both love antiqueing, though. WE just don’t want to take the Interstate and miss everything that New York has to offer.
And yes, we have a couple of Trip-Tiks already from AAA. I just want to get some personal input.
Many thanks in advance, and if this is in the wrong forum, mods, feel free to move it.
oooh, if you like antiqueing you are in the correct area. should you decide to venture out of niagara falls the cooperstown area (about 4-5 hours away) aside from the baseball hall of fame has tons of antique stores. just about any town in between as well. i remember seeing antique signs all over the road up there. they were like burma shave signs.
i would also take a gander at rochester (2-3 hours), lots of nifty things to see and do there as well. susan b anthony and george eastman’s houses are there. seneca falls has all sorts of “votes for women” history.
in niagara itself, goat island is worth a stop, it will show you what the falls were like before ripleys believe it or not museum and other stange museums abounded. go for all the “falls” tours, maid of the mist, cave thing, behind the falls thing they are a lot of fun and give you different sides of the falls.
don’t forget you will be in the area of the most famous toxic waste site, love canal. niagara: a history of the falls by berton is a rather good book.
congratulations and i hope everything goes well on your wedding day and honeymoon.
