My inner dirty hippie is rejoicing today

…because I just got tickets for Phish at Saratoga Springs next month.

The last show I went to was NYE in Boston about a million years ago (actually, I think it was '98). But then I went back to school, got my proverbial shit together, and silently longed for disposible income and time off of work when fellow phreaks took off for Vegas, Big Cypress, Maine, etc. Bastards.
BUT…I’m back, with cash to spare and a fortuitous birthday of a friend to celebrate at the show, taboot. I’ve been working my ass off at work and around the new house. I’ve explained to my darling husband that this is something I just must do. I popped for the tickets and we’re readying the wagons. It just feels so good to be able to do something that I love without having to choose between a show and, say, rent or groceries.

Mundane? To most, probably. Pointless? To be sure. But it was something I had to share. Hopefully there are other Phish aficionados in the Doper three-ring circus that have summer tour plans to chime in with.

Oh yeah…WHOOO HOOOOO

Congrats! This is the first year I’m taking off since, well, forever.

I ended a 7 year relationship at IT last year, he was my show buddy. Feel the need to take a break. I went to all the Loring shows, saw them at least twice a year (when they were active), since 1989.

Have a great time!

 So me and my best girl cat, MsTree, are hitting the road tomorrow for a week of pampering, snoozing and just plain R&R.

I take only one (the smartest) of my cats b/c she really does need a break as much as I do. As soon as I pass the turn for the vet’s Ms Tree settles down for the 12 hr road trip without much fuss.
Pica the cat is a dim bulb, selfish as all get out, and a poor traveler (she panics and pees :smack: then she YOWLS in a big deep bass voice-not pleasant for a 12hr road trip).
Shadow tells the humans in great detail how much he hates cramped spaces, he is getting motion sickness, he would rather be getting bathed right now–anything but a car trip .
The newest addition to the household (BraveHeart) is only nine weeks old and we have only had him for the last week. And he didn’t enjoy the trip to the vet’s this morning. So it is anyone’s guess how he will do in the future.

Does anyone else take a “special” pet on road trips?

Thanks, dinahmoe! My hiatus went along roughly the same lines, and I kinda fell away from the rest of the crowd that I would head off to shows with. I envy your every-year-since-'89 record greatly, BTW. My ex has shows going back to '88 on tape, but I only discovered them in '95. Clifford Ball was, hands down, one of the best times of my life. This year the summer festival rumor is Vermont, which is a lot easier for me to make than Maine, so here’s hoping…
And enjoy your hiatus, the fun will be rolling when you find your way back!

I’m envious–the tour isn’t coming anywhere near me, and I’m not free around that time to cross the country. With the less frequent touring and more work with side projects, the composed parts of songs aren’t as tight as they may have been in the past (though I think I and everyone else have certain “ideals” that we remember, so this isn’t as true as we think), but the improvisation has been out of this world.

I’ve been to sixteen shows, including the whole Deer Creek-Columbus run (five shows in six days!) in 2000. My last show was last spring’s tour closer here in Greensboro.

They never come down south. Last time they came even close to Houston was a show in New Mexico or Arizona. Sucks to be us I guess… :frowning:

Enjoy the show!

He who has Dave Matthews Band tickets

Interestingly enough, this thread was just on top of the “Russia decrimilizes all drugs” thread.

I saw Phish a couple years ago when they opened for Santana. I don’t get it…
