My Internet Speed is 17.6 MBPS

I’m at my parents’ house. They have deplorable service.

Download - 1.29 Mbps
Upload - 2.54 Mbps

Mbps according to:

Ookla: 47 down, 6 up
Google: 38 down, 5.5 up
Spectrum: 48.5 down, 6 up
fast.com (Netflix): 51 down 6.6 up

Google tool seems an outlier (tried each twice)

Currently in VA suburbs of DC

My service is sold as 50/5, and speedtest shows I’m getting exactly that. For people that dig oddly precise numbers, it actually came up as 49.98/5.12. My assumption is that the line can deliver a bit more, but is capped by software settings either at the DSLAM or at my gateway.

This is two copper VDSL lines in a “shotgun” configuration. Presently, nothing better is available in my neighborhood. Eventually, maybe, someday… My ISP has fiber to the home in seemingly random areas, but not here.

…why is my “up” speed 5x my “down” speed. I’m seeing ~9 down/50 up. That doesn’t make sense.

That one is connected to the router by cable.

My other computer with a USB wireless adapter is shown about 50/50.

So it’s something to do with computer #1. Could it be the ethernet adapter on the old mobo can’t handle faster downloads than 9.x Mbps?

Download 1.03 mbps, which doesn’t surprise me; consistent with other checks on a different site. Upload 0.00, which is rather surprising; it’s generally less than the download speed, but not usually nonexistent. Might have been a temporary glitch.

Feel better now?

And no, that’s not unusual for this particular area.

72 down 6 up

Not too bad, considering that I’m stuck with Comcast.

82D, 6U. Might be faster wired, this is over wireless from my driveway. I should stop checking the dope when I’m trying to clean out my car.

Maybe your ethernet cable is connected backwards.

Comcast customer service is notoriously appalling. But I think their actual product is good. I get consistently 250-300 down (I pay for 250) and there are very few outages.

I’m guessing it’s not quite zero, unless you sent in this post by mail.

24 down, 1.5 up.
I’m too cheap to upgrade.

4g phone connection in London: 34.5 down and 14.1 up

Yeah, I was thinking ‘it can’t actually be zero, I can post and send email.’ I often can’t send or receive even moderately large files, though. And most videos, if they play at all, need to pause every few minutes to catch up on downloading.

There’s supposed to be a fiberoptics ring coming to the county soon, but I don’t know that it’ll come close enough to here to help me any.

Seriosuly, in 2019 you just discovered them? Right this second I’m at 25ms/114.05/9.69. Upload seems a bit slow. This is a lot faster than I need. I used to live in a third world country, too, and being forced to use VPN to punch through the Great Firewall meant living with about 10 mbps for real websites. While I could get Chinese sites at >120 mbps with my $20/mo. fiber service, I don’t read Chinese so it was meaningless.

When I see people complaining about less than 100 mbps service, I’ve got to ask, why? What the hell do you need so fast?

419 down 308 up. If no one in the rest of octopus manor is streaming videos we can get around 950 down and up.
