Over the last 6 months or so it’s started to take multiple presses of my home button to actually get me to the home screen- wasn’t sure it was the phone at first, however within the last month it’s been getting to the point where it’s clearly not “operator error” and the button is definitely starting to fail.
I purchased this phone last spring along with a buy-back program with the intention of getting some savings on the 5 when it comes out. At this point this phone may not be working at all when the 5 comes out.
Should I upgrade now to the 4S with a new buy back plan so that I’ll have buy-back value (and a working phone to trade in) for the iPhone 5? Or just take the $40 or so loss on the buy back program? (I do need a working phone so not sure what to do when the button finally goes kaput)
I have no idea about the buyback thing, but my boss had the same problem with his 4 and they gave him a new one. Try bugging your provider for a replacement phone first?
If by restore you mean holding down the home and power buttons until it does a hard shutdown, yes, I have tried that and it hasn’t helped. Is there another type of restore?
I figured that it’s not so easy to get a replacement iPhone after a year, but to be honest I haven’t tried.
I was having problems with my iPhone 4 home button. Like, for months. Then just the other day I read something about connecting the cable with iTunes, syncing, then holding down the home button for a few seconds until voice command opens – then just hit the cancel button. It seems like voodoo but the responsiveness of the button is much better.
I have not done this. I’m synced up on the iCloud now. Should I expect that if I do this factory reset, all of my contacts/calendar entries/settings etc will reappear on my phone and everything will go back to the way it was before the reset? I always worry about resets because I end up having to re-do a million preferences. Although not having to spend $$$$$ on a new iPhone could make me put that into perspective real quick!
