My Kindle 2 is on the way!

This is very exciting. I thought there would be a huge backlog when I pre-ordered, but I guess I got in under the deadline. I’m giving it to my spouse as an anniversary present, but we’ll both be using it on our year-long venture. C’mon delivery!

Congrats! I bet you’ll love it. I got one (the initial version) for my husband when they first came out in 2007. I’ve posted on here before about how great it’s worked for him. I bought one for myself last fall, or I would be in for the Kindle 2 right now. If you decide to get a second one, keep in mind that you and your wife can share content on each of your kindles.

I just got the shipping confirmation on mine as well, and I only pre-ordered it last week. I was expecting there to be a huge wait since I held off so long on the pre-order and wasn’t a first-gen owner. Since you’re in AK too, do you know if the whispernet works here? I know ACS has the right EVDO network, but can’t get a clear answer on if the Kindle works on it.

Sorry, no idea. But we’re leaving the state, so it’s not really relevant for us at this point.

I’m getting mine tomorrow! I actually took the day of from work!

A friend of mine got his today. He is full of squee about it.

Don’t know if you got yours yet, but it works just fine with the Whispernet that comes with it. We love this thing already and haven’t even downloaded anything for it yet! It’s much smaller than I imagined, and about as thick as a piece of cardboard. Multiple functions, dictionary search, Wiki search, etc. Very nice. I’m going to buy a second one for ME, as my wife has already named this one.

I got mine yesterday. So far it is just an incremental improvement (especially in light of the recent text-to-speech announcement) and I probably shouldn’t have bought it. But I’ll be too lazy to return it; besides my old one will make a decent regifting opportunity.

Do not like the new navigation button placement. I never had a problem with accidental “next page” clicks on the old one and my preferred position for holding it when reading in bed now has the next page button out of easy reach. But that will probably get adjusted to.

The 16-shade grayscale really helps a lot but I don’t read many books with images so that is of limited value.

CNN.com just had a story on George W. Bush’s post-presidential life, and it mentioned in passing that he has a Kindle 2 now, as well.

I hear the Kindle 3 is coming out next month with all new features that will make the Kindle 2 all but obsolete.

Naaah. Just kidding. That probably won’t happen for six months.
