My laptop just died

Help!
I’ve got a Compaq Presario 1920.
It was working fine yesterday. Now, the display has dimmed to almost nothing. This is only supposed to happen when the thing is closed up. If I press the little button that makes it do this, then release it, the display goes back to normal for about a second.
Anyone got any suggestions?

Unplug everything from wall for at least a minute, including the monitor, computer & the monitor from the computer. Wait a minute & plug it back in. Thats all you can do with it for now. That resets things…

He’s talking about a laptop not a desktop.

Try the following

Get rid of all power saving settings (this assumes you are using a Win9x platform). Then check your BIOS for any Energy Saver features or any “optional” features relating to monitor use.

If you have a video out port for an external monitor and have the use of a regular monitor then check to make sure that you are able to port out your video. (usually it is Function+F5 or F8 for video porting on the function keys but you might need to check your manual).

Power cycle the machine bu disconnecting the Ac adapter and removing the battery.

If you are the only person to access the machine think back to when it began, did you add any software/remove any/upgrade your BIOS?

Does jogging the screen have any effect?

You are probably going into hibernation mode or having an energy saver feature actu up on you (you don’t always have to manually activate the energy saver features. Some Windows and NT upgrades with automatically activate them and restore default settings).

Hope that helps.
