So I was taking part in that Slob Reform thing when it started, then ended up reverting back to my oogy, unorganized ways. So sad. I’ve gotten tired of the mess again, however, and decided to start cleaning a little every day again. Today something happened that has reinforced my need to change my habits:
My kitchen flooded a little.
No, really, it did. Just a little, though. See I just have the single sink (not a double-sink jobby), and it’s got a garbage disposer in it, that likes to get full of junk if I don’t turn the damn thing on periodically. Well, it’s been awhile since I ran a load of dishes. When the dishwasher drains, the water comes in through the disposal and usually starts drifting up into the sink… usually not a big deal, but a little annoying even on a good day.
Today was apparently not a good day. I’m home for lunch and start up a load of dishes, happy to be making any sort of progress. As I’m sitting in the living room I hear a sort of splattering sound and see my cat backing away from the kitchen. What the hell’s going on in there? Well, I’m playing a game and decide to put off checking it out… “Ah it’s probably nothing. Maybe something outside.”
When I finally get my lazy ass up, I see that the sink is overflowing onto the counters, and the water is flowing down onto my floor, from both sides of the counter. At first glance I thought water was gushing out of the dishwasher, and hurriedly turned it off, after which I saw the situation for what it was.
Yeah that took awhile to clean up, especially since my counters were piled with stuff that I had to move so I could get to all of the water. On the bright side, my counters (and floor!) are now cleaner than they were this morning!
