My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - General Discussion [edited title]

Wow, that is one creep song

Allow me to plug a video I made with “The Internet is for porn”. I was surprised not to already see a pmv with this song, so I went ahead and did it.

Anypony else notice how they drew the proportions?

Juveniles tend to have small limbs compared to their body, big heads compared to the body, big eyes compared to the head and small lower part of the head. It seems like the ponies were designed to push that to the utmost while stopping just short of too much. And then they somehow pushed it further with the Cutie Mark Crusaders.

What other tricks do they use to make the show appealing?

What’s interesting is that young Fluttershy is the sole exception. She’s portrayed in “Cutie Mark Chronicles” as noticeably taller and ganglier than the other juvenile ponies - in fact, her proportions more closely resemble that of actual fillies and colts, which don’t have the “big head/ small arms” structure of other mammal babies. In the show, though, young Fluttershy’s look makes her look slightly older than the other fillies, like Rainbow Dash, which fits with how she is supposed to be a year older than the others.

Why has this show been popular with men? I can see why women in their 20s or 30s might like this; for the same reason some women in the same age bracket like the Twilight series even though it’s meant for females much younger than them. Why men though?

People who like Twilight like it because the subject trumps the lack of quality. People who like Friendship Is Magic like it because the quality trumps the subject.

Who was the 10th person to vote for Rainbow Dash? Have we made someone join the herd?

When you first saw MLP, what did you think? If your opinion changed, what made it change?

Wired.com has a clip from the first episode of Season 2 online.

Come on Saturday, I haven’t got all week!

Let’s hope there’s not going to be any four-hoofed Picard to tangle with theQhimera

A MLP:FiM thread on another forum I frequent has just passed the 500 page.

I should have voted for Rarity instead of Rainbow Dash. I wasn’t thinking.

Equestria Daily just posteda great audio interview with Jason Thiessen, the new showrunner of MLP:FiM for season 2. There are a few mildly cringeworthy bits (the female interviewer’s insistence on referring to people as “ponies” kind of irritated me), but overall it’s a fantastic interview and gives me great confidence that the show will maintain a high level of quality despite the loss of Lauren Faust. No real spoilers, although there are a few vague hints about where the show may be going in the new season and beyond. Definitely worth a listen.

Edited to add: I’ve been thinking about this for a while, but with Season 2 almost upon us, would you guys be open to having the mods change the title of the thread to something like “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - General Discussion”? I figure we’ll continue to use this thread to talk about new episodes, and we might as well make clear that, at this point, it’s a general MLP show discussion thread rather than one about the “brony” phenomenon.

At least 200 of them, no doubt, being primarily variants on ‘glue factory!!!’

We could, Tanbarkie, or someone could make a new discussion thread and link it here.

Sure, I can’t chane the title but if we sacrifice a few goats, we might summon a Mod who will do it. A thread can include both the brony phenomenon and MLP. Splitting them might make it awkward since I don’t think you can talk about one extensively without talking about the other.

Changed thread title.

Thanks, Marley.

Looking at the results, why do you think Rainbow is at least 20% cooler than all the other ones?

As for myself, though I would prefer someone like Twilight Sparkle IRL, when Rainbow appears onscreen, I know something interesting is going to happen. It may not be optimal, or wise or even minimally thought-through, but it will be interesting. She stirs shit up.

The voice is also distinctive and interesting. Someone linked to a MLP soundboard in this thread and the character with the most interesting sounds were Rainbow’s, I found.

I don’t know. I find her really annoying and I tend to prefer the Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy ones myself. She’s not super cute either – I value adorableness!

IMO, Rarity is the one that makes the most entertaining vocalizations. Her “Wahaha!!” and “Please PLEASEPLEASE” noises never fail to crack me up. Tabitha St. Germain does amazing things with that character.

For those of you who haven’t seen it already, Equestria Daily just posted an extensive retrospective interview about Season 1 with Lauren Faust. It’s an insightful and detailed (albeit somewhat bittersweet) read about the inception and production of the show.

I still can’t wait for Season 2, but I’m going to miss Faust’s involvement. She seems like an incredible person and a true artist.
