Ponies have microscopic ridges on their hooves which form dry adhesive bonds to other objects mediated by the van der Waals force. When all of the adult ponies shut out the CMC in the gossip episode, my kid was crying so hard I had to pause it to let her catch her breath.
Thankfully she didn’t freak out upon a second viewing a week later.
We are very excited for the wedding, but I’m making sure to tell her daily that there won’t be new episodes after it’s over until “around Halloween”. That sounds far enough away that I hope she gets it.
Perhaps you can somewhat content her with youtube’s pony music videos (PMV), if you haven’t found them already.
What sorts of things make your kid react positively to MLP?
Does she usually react that strongly to shows?
My kid adores the ponies. She really connects with them, even the minor characters. So when they get upset, her sympathy and empathy levels go off the charts. It was like she was being rejected by the Mane Six.
She is fine on second viewings, so it’s just the drama that scares her. Once she knows that it has a happy ending, she’s fine. And she has to see that happy ending herself. Me telling her it’s coming doesn’t convince her.
So she’s nearly traumatized while watching when anything remotely sad happens, but handles it fine the next time. And funny things, sweet things always stay funny and sweet.
Only a few other things really affect her so strongly, so it’s another reason I like this show. They can take away the E/I label, but it encourages her to talk about feelings and emotions with me.
I admit I was predisposed to find fault with the season finale just because of all the hype leading up to it. Seriously - Tori Spelling? Get away from my [del]friends[/del] ponies you are not in the same universe. :mad:
Anyway, Part One. Picnic, wedding invitation blah blah squee, brother out of nowhere, I’m enjoying the show. Twilight’s not feeling the love and I am so down with that. Plainly the rest of the Mane Six haven’t surfed Etiquette Hell.
The force field over Canterlot was spectacular, and apparently the train tunnels in Mount Canterlot confer distance-warping powers.
I thought (okay, hoped) that Bridezilla!Cadence meant that the writers were using the ultra girly premise to subvert the wedding mythos, but then it shifted against Twilight. Had this been a standard episode I would have been resigned to seeing it end there. So we get to the last two minutes…

… and I literally exclaimed, “Holy shit!” Did she just send Twilight sparkle to Hell?!
Part Two delivered more nightmare fuel for this happy viewer. Twilight seems poised to save the day but then Evil Queen Chrysalis! With holes through her legs! And swarms of flying [del]Death Eaters[/del] Changelings battering the shield over the castle… suffice to say, I was won over.
To wrap this up before it becomes a recap, yeah I liked this finale. The climax was a bit sappy but after all that preceded it I was fine with that. I have a few more nitpicks, like making Princess Luna look ultimately useless (was she taking a nap through all this?), but, well done.
The finale was awesomely epic. Thoroughly enjoyed it, although I was disappointed that Celestia got Worf-thrown and Luna was out to lunch. A lot has been talked about what a big deal they are, it needs to be shown. The villain launches into her “Mua-ha-ha!” speech while Celestia is standing right behind her? Come on, that deserved a royal beatdown.
The longer the show goes, the more that Equestria seems like a terrifying place to live. My first reaction to the shield bubble and the legions of guards everywhere was “Holy crap, the ponies have terrorists!”. They were clearly guarding against an internal problem rather than an external one. Then there’s the casual use of mind control magic again. We’re supposed to buy that it’s good mind control magic because it was done for/to cause love? You shouldn’t be messing with anypony’s head! Scary, scary place.
A lot of songs although I didn’t find any of them memorable.
I’m happy to see that there were two hoof to mouth scenes.
I’m curious to know what feeling rollercoaster FairRarity’s kid went through. That must have been pretty bad for her.
Did she have trouble following the story?
Now I know I’ll go through pony withdrawal until next season. If anypony reading this knows of a way to get my fix, please share it.
