My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

Aw! Much 'bliged. I think my idea of awesomeness Buddhist style would be to come back reincarnated as Fluttershy.

By complete coincidence, I watched the episode “Swarm of the Century” only a few hours after the Stargate episode “The Scourge”.

That was… unusual.

I watched it almost back to back with the Transformers Prime episode Scrapheap.

Which, like Swarm of the Century, involved absolutely adorable little locust-things that are brought into the main character’s home by one who thinks they’re too damn cute, and wants one as a pet.

I’m just waiting for a GI Joe episode where Cobra bio-engineers cuddly locusts, and Scarlett decides to adopt one, given the Hub’s apparently being rather enamoured with the idea.

Of course, Scraplets actually eat people, nobody knows how to defeat them until almost the very end of the episode, and Bulkhead screaming like a little girl as soon as he saw one wasn’t at their adorableness.

I was hoping the parasprites would be cuter. Was I the only one going, “Ewww”?

That’s the trouble with Tribbles.

It’s funny you should mention Stargate. I’ve been trying to get my head back into writing, and I’m sort of, ah, indulging my dork side with a crossover fic. cough

The scene that popped into my head and started the ball rolling, spoilered for length:
It was well into evening when Daniel returned to camp. O’Neill had his P90 spread out in orderly disassembly before him on a blanket, methodically cleaning each piece. He glanced up at Daniel, a hint of disapproval in his voice. “You’re late.”

Daniel tossed his backpack into the cradle of a nearby tree’s roots and settled down by the fire. He shrugged sheepishly. “I guess I lost track of time. Twilight Sparkle has an incredible library, and I swear she’s read every book in it.”

O’Neill began to reassemble the rifle, snapping pieces back together with slightly more force than necessary. “Why didn’t you radio in? Teal’c and I were about to go look for you.”

“…Ah. Right. Um…we sort of took the radio apart so I could show Twilight the fundamentals of radio communication.” Daniel’s contrite note brightened. “She was really interested and picked it up faster than most college students. And the fine control she has with that telekinesis is really amazing! You’d think their object manipulation wouldn’t be that hot considering they don’t have, you know, fingers, but I don’t think I could have done as good a job of reassembling it. And I’m starting to get a handle on the kind of forces she employs. They call it magic, but it seems more like a sort of extrasensory -”

Daniel might have continued on in that bubbly tone for some time had O’Neill not interrupted with a long-suffering sigh. “Did you figure out the gate symbols?”

“- right. Well…no. Twilight had her little dragon buddy send word to the capitol for some more books. We should have better luck tomorrow.”

“You better. This whole thing is starting to remind me of Abydos.” O’Neill fixed Daniel with a gimlet stare. “I think we better get out of here before you decide to fall in love and stay behind again.”

A flush suffused Daniel’s face, but he didn’t retort. For a time, the only sound in the camp was the steady clacking of metal on metal as O’Neill finished putting the rifle back together. By then, the anger and embarrassment had left Daniel’s face, replaced by an expression O’Neill recognized and feared: that faraway look of a theoretician with too much time on his hands. “If both participants are sapient beings, is it really besti-”

“Do not finish that sentence, Jackson.” Silence fell again for several heartbeats, broken by O’Neill’s audible shudder. “I’m going to sleep.”
Well, Rarity seemed to think they were a little icky after one vomited a baby at her. >_>

Like she hasn’t had to deal with that from Opal…

… Classic.

Bosstone, that is 10 kinds of awesome. PLEASE let us know when you’re finished writing it.

Just finished the Friendship is Magic two-parter and…I liked it. They’re just so…cute and yet “realistic”. Sigh.

Also: Princess Celestia of Equestria? That just amuses me every time.

Not to harp on and ON about Fluttershy but her meeting with Twilight is one of my all time fave moments. Partly for the cute but also because I’m a wee bit shy myself. Which is why I loved her mini freak out before the party in Celestia’s honor.

Who else wants to see more of Luna, though? I want sibling rivalry hijinks!

I’ll just… leave this concept art here. Enjoy.

I’d love to see The Great And Powerful Trixie again for pure cheese factor. Also MLP computer games, I demand them. And you can never get enough Pinkie Pie.

There’s a couple in the works. That site is pretty good for fandom news in general, too.

Four of those sketches are up on Ebay to raise money for Give2Asia, their combined bids now equal $9,001, with one auction closed so far (Derpy, $2,151).
Here’s a page with links to the auctions. Hopefully, the bidders are serious; I thought about maybe bidding on one when it was announced, but quickly changed my mind.

I just watched the parasprites one today too. We watched the Trixie one for the first time and my kid was terrified and enthralled at the same time (3 1/2-years old) and then later wanted me to put “the bad guy one” back on.

The more I watch, the more I like. My kid says they’re all her favorite and refuses to pick one, but I like Fluttershy the best.

I don’t like it as much as Phineas and Ferb, but it might be the only kids-oriented cartoon on tv that I’d watch without a kid.

I am not sure whether to thank you all or curse you. After this thread and one over on rpg.net, I looked into MLP:FiM for gift-ideas for my 3yo niece. Which I got her, and she adored, of course. And to prepare when she quizzed uncle on who was whom, I had to watch a few episodes; only fair, I already know the Star Wars and Harry Potter trivia for her brothers.

… Now I can’t stop watching them. :smack:

I’m a bit disappointed by the aesop for “Feeling Pinky Keen”. Most of the episode was great, especially the part with Derpy Hooves, but Twilight Sparkle acting like a Flat Earth Atheist should have made for a pro-science aesop: if you “know” you are right but the evidence keeps saying that you’re wrong, you should be willing to reconsider your position.

Yeah, that one left me annoyed too. As it is, it advocates abandoning critical thinking.

Pinkie is very cute and I adore absurdist humor, but she’s my least favorite character mostly because of that episode. And dammit Twilight should know better. :frowning:

Yeah, everyone’s disappointed by the moral in that one. It’s been admitted it was shoehorned in. The focus was mostly just the Looney Tunes tribute.

Pinkie Pie: When it’s time to party, bitch gets the shit done.

“Party of One” is one of the best yet

The scene with Applejack and Pinkie at the barn door - those expressive pony faces and big eyes just kill me!

And Pinkie’s psychotic episode was a mite freaky. Did you notice some of those “guests” were talking by themselves?
