SO I pop into Futureshop before my evening job, to of course buy Hail To the Thief, Limited Edition (what else) and I come inside, and see the norm CD, but no Special Edition.
I ask this nice female employee, and though she gives me outstanding service, (get this) they are sold out, because there were only SEVEN.
YUP, SEVEN.
MY god. :smack: What were they thinking!!! There are more then SEVEN true Radiohead fans in my fucking CITY!!!
Then I go to the “Best Buy” and they have TWO (freaking) copies left.
But guess what, no-one can find them.
Rotton employees hiding there own cd to take home…
I guess I can’t blame them.
I’m just so dissapointed…
I held off downloading the album for months and now I may have to wait at least a week for the Limited Edition.
I have had a very deep intuition that I have the cd. I’m told that this alternate way of knowing is not worse than empirical reason, which tells me that I never bought the Cd because I’m broke, but just a different way of knowing things. So, yes, I have the Cd. Just don’t ask me to prove it: that’s pretty narrowminded of you.
If you want to order it online, A&B Sound seems to have the limited edition in stock. Don’t know why it’s so expensive, though I have noticed their online prices are higher than in the store. I didn’t make it down there today, but I wouldn’t expect the in-store price to be more than about $15.
Lemme guess, the special edition has an extra track of Thom whining about 3rd world debt relief or free tibet or how everything sucks and he hates the world?
Radiohead is the only band I have ever given a “3rd chance” to. I listen and listen and listen, but I just don’t get it. It just doesn’t “click” for some reason.
But I refuse to give up so easily! I’ll give it another shot before all the discs go up on Ebay.
What is so special about the “Limited Edition”? From what I hear, its just a rip-off marketing ploy from the labels with little or nothing special about them. Any clue?
Why do the artists that bitch the loudest about free downloading get so much radio airplay?
Heh, I get yeah gatopescado like I said I’ve said before, I’ve never liked a Radiohead song the first time heard.
Anyways, I did manage to get the Special Edition, which I will be (ironically) replacing with the norm. The packaging is very intricate and the case is bigger. IT has a lyrics booklet, and a big colorful fold out map. The map is basically a bigger picture of the front cover. And thats the only difference!!
Meh…:o
Hey Gary Did you like the CD or not? I don’t understand!
You don’t “get” OK Computer or The Bends? Well congratulations on not having anything inside your head besides some saline solution and a couple of nuts and bolts.
I’m all for differing opinions and the like, and I think saying “My God, Kid A is an incomprehensible mess of pseudo-music” is even a fairly valid criticism. But to disrespect The Bends and OKComputer is like listening to Requiem or Canon in D and saying “fuck that booyah, it goes over my head”. For a start, it’s not that complex, for another thing: it’s totally sweet. Art has an element of objectivity to it, as well as subjectivity.
All true, but in no way changing the fact that it’s possible for any person to like or dislike any group or band for purely personal reasons - and be right.
Hell, I still like Zigue Zigue Sputnik. Go figure.
Back to Hail to the Thief though, whats your reaction to We suck young blood"? To date I’m the only person I know who likes it - everyone else accuses it of being a bad example of Thom in whining mode.
When I say “I don’t get it” I mean that I don’t think its the greatest thing since sliced toast, like most Radiohead fans. I listen and say, “Eh, its okay, but maybe if I listen a few more times, I’ll have an Epiphany!”. There is at least enough there to give them another shot (or 2 or 3 or 4). Some stuff I try gets the shit-can after one attempt, but most new music I try I really enjoy. Maybe they just aren’t that good? Maybe I’ve got a lot better stuff to listen to?
As far as my musical taste is concerned, I have over 600 CDs with everything from “A Perfect Circle” and Bach to XTC and ZZ Top and lots of good shit inbetween, so I’m not convinced it’s ME!
She told me she loved me like a brother. She was from Arkansas, hence the Joy!
I can relate to you here, actually. I share this opinion with one of my personal favorite albums (Jayhawks, Hollywood Town Hall). I couldn’t begin to understand how anyone wouldn’t think that its one of the best pieces of music available. I dare you to try it and not like it!
But to each his own! Hell, some people don’t like sushi! No accounting for taste, I guess!
“Being drunk is the best feeling in my poor world” --Uncle Gabby
It’s not complex, it’s just crap. Most of the lyrics could have been written by a suicidal 14-year-old Marxist, and the vocals are often indistinguishable from a cat in a blender.
