I was doing so well, I hadn’t had a single cherry today and then I saw this thread. I’m pretty sure I’ve eaten dozens of lbs this year. I don’t tend to get a poopy reaction to them even with the number I consume.
Look on the bright side, at least you wouldn’t have to share your cherries.
My bold.
I’m so glad you said this. People think I’m nuts because I think a good winesap is The Very Best Eating Apple. When they’re good, they have a depth of flavor that you just don’t find in the other popular (what I consider “wimpier”) apples. They are hard to find here in Texas–sometimes you can get them for a couple of weeks in the winter.
I will be heading to the grocery store later for cherries… I kind of OD’d on them a couple of weeks ago and had to lay off, but this thread has got me going again. (I’ll call my sponsor and go to a meeting later…)
Yeah I don’t quite get honeycrisps, fujis or granny smiths. They’re okay but winesaps and empires are my very favorites. Sweet, slightly tart, juicy and deliciously crisp each of them. We have a wonderful apple orchid within half an hour of my house. I can’t wait for next month so we do the first of several annual apple picking trips.
I discovered Jazz apples this year and they are like candy. I don’t get the others and red delicious just barely manages to be red.
Unfortunately, this thread stopped being about cherries in post #2.

What kind of cherries are good? I’m not a fan but figure I’ll give them a try.
I’ve had Bing, Rainier and Stemilt and I think they are all good. Raniers seem to be a little over priced for what they are as I couldn’t discern a huge difference from the others.
Heretic.
Blasphemy.
Straight cherry Rumtopf is pretty good (Although I have to cut mine with half water to get past the sweetness, so final proof is probably just above wine.
I like to cut up a few fresh cherries and put on my cereal. Always look forward to the fresh summer harvest of cherrys and blueberries.
I like cherries too, but my summertime obsession is with peaches. So that I’ll ignore cherries if there are peaches in the house. My favorite are yellow freestone peaches. For some reason a few years ago, I collected the pits from the peaches all summer, throwing them into a bowl. At the end of the summer I had more than a quart of peach pits.
One of my pleasures is driving in the country on summer days with my car stereo set to liquify.
I bring along several cans of pop, a mug full of ice, some extra ice and a tupperware container with;
One Plum
Rainier Cherries (in season, other cherries when not)
Blueberries
And then some dark chocolate. Usually Dove Dark.
I don’t get it.
Ooh, ooh, I have a bar of dark chocolate in the fridge now. I never even thought of eating the dark chocolate and cherries together.
Unfortunately, I no longer have a car stereo that will liquify. Got too expensive and I got tired of people asking me to help them with their car stereo problems.
OMG, thank you everyone. Cherries are my favorite fruit but they give me the wickedest fucking shits (which they didn’t do when I was a kid) so I thought there must be something uniquely wrong with me. It’s so bad that I have to plan my cherry-eating, i.e., make sure I have no engagements afterward and eat all 10 pounds in one sitting so that I only have to endure one night’s worth of nuclear shit.
Perhaps your intestinal problems are caused by eating ten pounds of cherries in one sitting? Have you considered eating less of them? Perhaps only five pounds at a time? Or maybe a light snack of two pounds.
