So, how are we all reacting to the casting of the new chief? I think that Penny Johnson Jerald is a pretty good pick. Her character is supposed to be quite a bit tougher than Montgomery was, less tolerant of having Castle wandering around the station. With any luck, that will trigger a protective response from Beckett and drive our favorite pair even closer together.
I’m not very familiar with her, but the “captain” role on the show hasn’t been too important (aside from the last couple of episodes), and I hope they don’t change that.
Among other roles, she played the evil Sherry Palmer on a season or two of 24, so I think she can handle whatever the writers have in mind.
I hope they don’t make this too serious. What I like about Castle is they seem to be having fun. If they put in a “tough” captain it could easily become just another cop show.
One aspect of the Castle formula is that every season something must happen to drive Castle away from the precinct and he has to spend at least a few episodes proving himself again. I can easily see the new captain getting a hair up her ass about Castle and forcing him to work off the books, as it were, until he proves himself to her.
You had that right, but they threw us a curve by having the mayor step on the captain almost immediately (well, after the months that Becket was out of the precinct recuperating) to bring Castle back in after being banished.
I was wondering how they were going to return to the normal formula of (bloody body) + (real culprit is one of the early people interviewed) + (pondering the murder board) + (drinking coffee) + etc. after they had descended so far into an extended arc thriller plot line. I was happy to see that they figured out a way to side-step the arc for a while and give us the promise of light-weight stuff.
Question: If they do another Becket in a Bikini episode, will they include the zipper?
Not one, but TWO Deep Space Nine alums on the season premier! Gotta love that. Penny Johnson (who played Kassidy Yates) as the new Captain, and Michael Dorn (Worf) as the shrink. Woo hoo! And with Brent Spiner on Alphas recently, it’s shaping up to be a good TV fall.
I loved how subtle that one was. Was it the earliest Firefly shout out?
IIRC, yes it was. We may have missed a few in the background somewhere.
