Pasta, pesta, chicken, creamy mushroom sauce. He made and cooked them all himself. And he’s just turned 14. He got the combination of flavours just right. It was delicious and I’m very proud of him. His grandmother - my mother - is a very talented cook indeed so he’s clearly inherited her ability. Unfortunately, it skipped my generation.
I’ve heard that my teenage autistic nephew has taken up cooking. I get to go visit in a few weeks and have been told to just sit back and let him cook breakfast. Sweet!
Many of the young men I went to high school with have grown up to become successful chefs. For the most part they were kids for whom not much was expected. Having a passion and a talent for cooking can lead you far in life!
The nephew is a very clever young man. He’s very mathematically inclined.
When I was a kid, Mom told my big brother and me, if we wanted home-baked cookies, we’d have to learn how to bake them ourselves. We both grew up to be good cooks.
Throughout my youth I had chronic rhinitis so never developed much of a sense of taste, so cooking was lost on me.
