Seems I’ve got a new cubical mate, I didn’t ask for one, but he showed up this week. For the most part he’s quiet, which is a good thing.
This year we were encouraged to decorate our cubes for Halloween. I’ve got a ton of stuff at home so I brought some in. I make aeronautical charts for a living so I figured why not have him ‘helping’ me out for the week. Since he’s old I figured he wouldn’t want to do things on the computer so I hunted down the last of the hand drawing materials left around the office and gave him some work.
I had to give him an ID and that’s when my inner nerd came out. So, say hello to my cube mate, Johann Lambert, creator of the Lambert conformal conic map projection, which is what we use to create our charts.
We’re having a decorating contest here at work, they didn’t say that at first, and I’ve gotten lots of compliments, and no one went nerdy like I did so I’m hoping I win bragging rights at least.
There are all sorts of little things around, I put up a cartographic book to his projection, I got a book about using aeronautical charts, and a few other things that we used to use around here. They tossed out a good amount of it a year or so ago or I would have had more.
I constructed his body out of old charts, we recycle them anyway so they worked out perfect. What I should do is put him at a light table for the weekend.
Damn, I lost. I lost to a guy who didn’t even decorate his own cube. I think it was rigged. Just wait til next year, no one will want to come near my cube then.
