So I’ve been working behind the scenes now for three months. Some of you may remember my short lived audio podcast, geekure. Well it fell through after just 3 weeks because I was doing it all myself and honestly, it wasn’t nearly as interesting as I thought it would be.
In any case, when I stopped the audio podcast I took the lessons learned and back in June this idea came to life. I pitched it to a friend who did video production and he signed on. From there I found a co-host who is a pro-Magic player and BOOM!
Three months of work finally came to life today as I uploaded our first episode!
[ul][li]Holy crap the transitions/titles are way louder than the content. It hurt my ears.[/li][li]I was disappointed that you didn’t have substantive reviews of Lorwyn cards. I’m guessing that it’s hard to keep up with the speed of mtgsalvation’s spoilers.[/li][li]I was surprised that the Pro was so impressed with the green 'walker. Turn 1 mana creature, turn 2 ascetic, turn 3 walker/guy, turn 4 hope your opponent doesn’t have a wrath doesn’t seem like a winning strategy to me… but I’m no pro.[/li]I’m wondering who your target demographic is. The level of discussion seemed geared more toward beginning players/players who don’t already read a half-dozen magic articles a day, but are those players really likely to watch a videocast?[/ul]

Watching/listening to it now.

Thanks for the feedback.
The audio levels were off but we ran too late in editing last night. On speakers the audio sounded like the transitions were louder but we didn’t quite realize how much louder it was. Sorry It’ll be corrected for the next episode.
We’re working hard trying to get on the inside with Wizards. Given their past action against the spoilers and rancoredelf we chose not to talk about any of the spoilers on the air. We had the spoilers with us at recording, but yeah - we are waiting to get some clarifications on legal issues cleared up before we go down that path.
We both like Garruk. But if you watch the next episode we do a slight reversal on our planeswalker thoughts. As for the play we lay out, that’s the ideal. We lay it out acting as if there is nothing stopping us. Counters, removal and such would all make life more difficult.
And you’re quite right that this was not a more skilled based episode. We’re still figuring out the format and what content works. Next week’s episode is along the same lines but the third one will be much more informative and will cover true strategy and lessons. Our target is the middle and up players, so we’re ramping into it.
Thanks for the feedback, let me know if you think of anything else.
(a) Damn it, I hate when people challenge my title of person-most-geekily-into-Magic! Grrr! (Here at work, I held that title totally uncontested, and then we go and hire Stephen fucking D’Angelo, of all people!)
(b) your link doesn’t work for me. I get a link to a .mp4 file, then IE pauses for a long time, then I get a quicktime error.
