My Nipple Piercing Story or... Another Good Reason To Take Me off Your Crush List

I don’t really have anything to add to the thread, except to say that the OP is pretty damn funny.

Welcome to the SDMB, seriousart!

Just go rent a copy of A Man Called Horse and you’ll realize that nothing that happens in a piercing parlor could be half as bad. The mention of that movie still makes my dad shudder.

I was gonna get mine done, but a few words from a guy friend made me change my mind for a little while. I kinda like nipple piercings. Never mention any genital piercings to me ever again. They freak me out because of some irrational fear of condoms ripping and the hoop/barbell coming undone and scraping me up.

Sealemon88:

Hey, thanks Sealemon88. Very kind of you to say so. I’ve finally been welcomed… (sniff)
I just need a minute to myself- thanks (sniff)

Are you kidding? Take you OFF the list? This just moves you to the top spot!

Honest truth? Saline is used quite often as part of the soaking process. It helps soften the crusties and the solution is sterile. Unfortunately for arty, I don’t think his piercer gave him a comprehensive set of instructions on afterware, because saline solution should never be your sole source of aftercare.

A lot of people kind of pooh-pooh the healing process. In fact, in my experience the bulk of post-piercing problems arise from lack of stringent aftercare. There are other factors as well however, like metal allergies. Don’t forget that a new piercing is not the same as a scraped knee. You created a hole through your body, which now has to try to repair itself. Its natural inclination is to close the hole. And if the piercing gets dirty, you can get a nasty infection that might require a visit to the physician.

Anne Greenblatt’s Piercing FAQ is the most comprehensive guide to piercing care available anywhere (I’m not kidding on this one). In part 5, “Care for New Piercings,” she says (correctly), that skin cleaners and cleansers containing chloroxylenol (PCMX), such as Provon Medicated Lotion Soap and Satin Antimicrobial Skin Cleanser, have been deemed safest and most appropriate for piercing aftercare. Unfortunately these products are hard to come by unless your piercer sells these in-store, or you are a health care professional.

Other products she recommends include: Techni-Care Surgical Scrub (3% chloroxylenol); liquid antibacterial soaps containing Triclosan (Dial Liquid, Almay Hypo-Care, Softsoap); Bactine, No More Ouchies, Pierced Ear Care Solution, Sensitive Ears Solution (Benzalkonium chloride and benzethonium chloride solutions); non-irritating soaps such as Dr. Bronner’s, Clearly Natural and Neutrogena.

She also lists contraindicated products, such as: Over-the-counter antibiotic ointments and creams containing any combination of bacitracin zinc, Neomycin, and Polymyxin-B; AC 2000, Bacticlens, Hibiclens, Hibiscrub, Hibitane, Savlon, Spectro Gram 2 and other chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) cleansers; hydrogen peroxide; Betadine, Triadine and other products containing Povidone iodine.

I did use anti bacterial soap after the initial saline solution thing. Seemed to work out OK.
Again, I just edited it out for the sake of the funny.

Baglady, you’re a good “straight man” to my misinformed anecdotes. We could take this act on the road…
I got another 4 holes shot in my ear, maybe we could work out a routine around that. Hmmm… I’ll get working on the next story.

feb 7, to be exact.

and i think you already knew that.

I’m a wimp, just got my boring old navel done. I do have a good nipple piercing story, kinda painful. First off, think piercings on the right person look pretty yummy.

Two of my friends were dating, all was right with the world. He had a nipple piercing, she loved it, all was right with the world. He cheated on her, she found out, she did not tell him she knew but the next time things were getting intimate, she hooked her pinky through that ring and, OOWWW! He had day surgery done so at least his nip looks mostly normal now.

Oh, so that’s what that noise was! Been wondering about that for a while now. Thanks for clearing it up!

I’m not taking you off my Crush List, either.
