my own Marvel Universe "geographical atlas"

Cabinda–where the Congo River empties into the Atlantic–is about 5 degrees south of the Equator, and the first edition of OHOTMU did put it on the Atlantic coast.

Do they offer degrees in Mad Science and Abnormal Mutation?

New Salem (home of Agatha Harkness’ coven)
Whisper Hill (home of Agatha Harkness)
The Vault
Project Pegasus
The “Cloak” dimension (accessible by Cloak and possibly others, e.g. The Shroud)
The “Spot” dimension
Earth (alt-world ruled by Reed Richards’ father)

For what it’s worth, I think the best “official” maps available are the ones drawn by Eliot Brown for the Marvel Handbook Deluxe Edition. If you want to seek them out, the listings that have maps associated are:

  • Asgard
  • Atlantis
  • Attilan (includes map of the Blue area of the Moon)
  • Lemuria (includes Monster Island)
  • Manhattan
  • Man-Thing’s Swamp
  • Olympus
  • Hades (within Pluto’s entry)
  • Savage Land (within Savage Land Mutate’s entry; more thorough entry in Marvel Universe Update '89)
  • Wundagore (shows SE Europe, including Latveria)
  • X-Men Mansion

In addition, some places have been pegged down with specific addresses:

  • Avengers Compound: 1800 Palos Verdes Road, south of metro LA
  • Avengers Mansion: 890 Fifth Avenue, NYC
  • Baxter Building: 38th Street, NYC
  • Daily Bugle: Corner of 39th Street & Second Avenue, NYC
  • Daredevil’s old townhouse: 448 E 66th Street, NYC
  • Dr. Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum: 177A Bleeker Street, NYC
  • Maison Alpha: 4 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
  • Xavier Mansion: 1407 Graymalkin Lane, Salem Center, NY

Some entries don’t have addresses but make mention to a particular region (usually in a mountain range):

  • K’un L’un: Himalayan Mountain Range, Tibet
  • Massachusetts Academy: Berkshire Mountains in Snow Valley, Massachusetts
  • Olympia (Home of Eternals of Earth): Undisclosed valley in Rhodope Mountains, Greece
  • Project: Pegasus: Mount Athena, Adirondack Mountains, NY
  • Stane International (formerly Stark International): Long Island, NY
  • The Vault (undiscolsed location in Rocky Mountain Range, Colorado)
  • Wakanda (equatorial Africa)

Other official sources for maps are:

  • Spider-Man Encyclopedia (includes update of Manhattan using actual satellite photo of NY)
  • X-Men: The Ultimate Guide (includes world map of X-Men related locations, including Muir Island, Genosha, and Madripoor
  • Hulk: The Utlimate Guide (includes world map that includes Desert Base (aka Gamma Base) in New Mexico

Hmm. My copy of the first edition of the OHOTMU puts its location in Northern Africa. And upon closer inspection, both the 1st and 2nd Edition has an arrow that points west to the Indian Ocean! Both maps also show that the Wakandan region is marked by mountainous terrain as much as it is by jungle.

So either they mistook (1) the Atlantic for the Indian Ocean, (2) North points down, or (3) Wakanda is actually on the western coast of Madagascar. I think your hypothesis is easiest to reconcile, but the matter is still a little fuzzy to me.

…Oh, and Damage Control, Inc. is based out of the Flatiron Building in NYC. (Unless we’re talking Spider-Man movie continuity, in which case the Daily Bugle is operating out of the Flatiron Building.)

Here’s a few more Marvel-continuity companies. Not too many addresses, though.

I remember that the Marvel GI Joe comics had fictional countries as well… not sure how they would fit in with the rest of the Marvel 'verse though… there was Trucial Abyssmia (Kuwait, basically)… there were a couple mentioned in the South America region… can’t forget Cobra Island itself… Snake Eyes went on a mission in Eastern Europe that took place in some Bosnia-like country… lots of places. I always wanted to see a GI Joe map of the world but I never did find one.
