My poor little laptop lives again - sort of=)

from the not so way back machine - Pitting my roomies cat thread

To make a long story short, my roomies cat whizzed on my laptop.

We got the tech manual and cleaned it up thoroughly following directions from several friends, yet it still didnt work. Due to a serious shortage of cash, I have been mourning its death, and using my gimpy desktop. As a surprise, my husband and a couple friends kicked in the cash and bought me a new motherboard as an early birthday present, and we put it together, and Lo! it lives again…but there are some problems with the LCD display panel…we can see all 4 spots the little monster targetted precisely because the screen no longer functions in those spots.

Now, my question today is fairly simple…in looking online, the costs of a new display from HP and most of the parts sites are roughly what it would seem to cost me to get a whole new laptop=\ BUT…I noticed that on some of the serious geek sites, you can buy just the screen part, no electronic guts…though still fairly expensive. Now, I have an older microtek 15" LCD monitor that the electronics died in [just kept getting dimmer and dimmer and dimmer, but still perfectly clear…] and since my display on the HP ze4100 is also a 15" display, I was wondering if it was possible to disassemble it, and replace my laptops dearly departed one with that one…I do believe they are both identical except for the plastic shells they reside in…
