Damnit. The week before graduation one of my teammates threw a party at her family’s farm. We got started with the homemade mojitos around 3PM. We built an adult-sized slip-n-slide, and then around 8:30 a brilliant idea struck.
You’d think that between 6 adults, 5 of which have at least one Master’s degree, that one of us would realize that heading down to the creek in the woods in the dark with only a flashlight to play on the rope swing was a bad idea. You’d be wrong.
So down we go and I’m taking a turn on the rope swing and I roll my ankle when hitting the opposite bank. Thinking I merely sprained it, I RICEd it and kept it wrapped for a few days. 8 days later it wasn’t getting better so I went to a doctor, then to an orthopedist a couple days after that. Which is when I discovered that my sprain had healed, but my continued pain that was causing a limp was the result of a hairline fracture in my foot, specifically the cuboid <sp?> bone.
I’m now wearing a boot and it is driving me nuts; I can’t properly excercise. My new MTB is sitting in the sunroom unused, and I can’t accomplish several things I want to get done because I have to rest it. I just hope come Thursday at my follow-up appointment the doc lets me take the boot off and get back to normal.
