My Roman Holiday

Thanks for all the suggestions from 1/15 on what to do on my free day. I got to Rome on that Saturday morning, toured St. Peter’s Basilica in the late afternoon, On Sunday, we attended the Pope’s daily message, and then went to the Pantheon and on a walking tour, including Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain. (one idiot, fortunately not from my group, decided to wade in it.) Monday we went to the Vatican Museum and saw the restored Sistine Chapel, and on Tuesday we took a trip to Ostia, and old port. Wednesday, I went shopping with some groupmates (I bought a jacket and skirt), while Thursday we went to the Forum and the Coliseum. Friday we left early for home (it’s a 10-hour flight to Philly, plus the short puddle-hopper to DC.) Overall, it was great fun–although it rained almost the whole time–Mediterranean winters aren’t for those who like seeing the sun shine more than 2 hours a day. Now comes the not-fun part: catching up on all the work
