Amen, my friend. I am not and have never been a morning person. I’m currently locked into an 8 to 5 workday, which means getting up before 7 am to leave my house in time to get to work something approaching on time (we have a micromanaging office manager who theoretically eyes our arrival time to the second, but I frankly don’t give a shit). So I stumble in each day yawning, and leave each day still yawning, never having stopped yawning in the meantime.
And yes, I go to bed earlier. But it doesn’t matter because it’s not the length of sleep time that makes the difference for me, it’s the time I wake up. A few years ago I worked 9:30 to 6. That was wonderful; I woke up at my natural waking-up time of 7:30 to 8:00-ish, and had about ten times the energy.
Whoever thought the workday should start at 8 am should be taken out at dawn and shot. Preferably after having made them stay up all night first so they at least know how tired one gets being forced to stick to a schedule that contradicts every fiber of one’s body’s circadian rhythms.
Great rant, BTW!
